Freeing Mental Memory
- Transfer
Someone said that a small pencil is better than a large memory. But what is the best way to follow this advice?
Every day we produce new information, and the efficient collection and organization of it is a difficult task. Fortunately, software makes this possible, and I urge you to dump more personal information digitally to free your head.
I feel that the more information I release from my head and store on my hard drive, the more “mental RAM” is freed up for tasks of greater importance.
Here is some information that I store on the PC instead of the head:
This may seem like a huge amount of information. In fact, all this is stored in a single file on my computer, is accessible via a hot key and is easily edited. A couple of clicks of the mouse, and I find what I wanted.
I use a program called Action Outline , which makes it easy to collect and organize a variety of information in one place.
The program runs in the background, and if any idea visits me, I call the program by hotkey and immediately add information. It seems to me that this is much faster than if I wrote down each idea in my notebook and thought it over later. Any part of the recorded information that I need right now is available very easily and can be found in seconds.
I know that there are many programs used by people to manage personal information, so feel free to offer your own. I love Action Outline for its simplicity and speed. It is not crammed with many functions, but it is fast and functional.
