The new Gpcode virus encrypts files with the RSA-1024 key and extorts money for a decryptor, Kaspersky launches the Stop Gpcode project

    Description of the virus itself.
    First victims.
    Forum dedicated to the virus.

Update databases, make backups - I personally suspect that this is only the beginning ... The
bad thing is that the key itself is quite powerful - in this case, cryptography works against the end user. Therefore, the success of Stop Gpcode in trying to crack it is doubtful. Although this is more likely an advertising campaign (aka “viral marketing”;)), so noise without a specific result is only good there. Moreover, the communication style on the forum is somehow moderately moderated. As soon as clarifying questions or discussions of omissions begin, the topic quickly covers itself.

Why Kaspersky climbs so hard into cryptography is a mystery to me.
