Nvidia Presents Tegra

Nvidia announced its serious and thorough intentions to enter the mobile chip market, where Intel has long dominated. The company's wishes are quite serious, and judging by their statements, the company seems to be making serious bets on this market.

The new technology is called Tegra, and having created a serious partnership foundation, the company plans to start producing models of chips and devices on these chips by the end of this year, and subsequent ones in the first half of the next.

Let's see what Nvidia presents to us.

    • This chip will include everything: an 800MHz ARM processor, a GeForce graphics processor, an image processor, a high-definition video processor, and other components responsible for working with communication devices, USB ports, memory, and everything else
    • Initially, Nvidia plans to release two models of the chip - Tegra 600 and Tegra 650, which can allow you to play Quake 3 with a full set of filters and with rates of 40 fps. And also with support for HD 1080p, WSXGA + LCD or CRT, and NTSC and PAL TV outputs
    • The company initially does not plan to support such mobile operating systems as Android or Symbian, and initially plans to support Windows CE and Windows Mobile
    • The declared chip size is approximately 1/10 of the size of the Atom processor from Intel, and it has a very low power consumption, while allowing you to listen to music for about 130 hours and watch video in HD quality for about 30 hours without recharging
    • The first devices with Tegra on board will be communicators or ultraportable laptops, with screen sizes from 4 "to 12", a QWERTY keyboard or touch screen, Wi-Fi and possibly 3G
    • It is estimated that the price of devices on this chip will be from $ 199 to $ 249

UPDATE: Apparently, it is a question of energy consumption that is already a device on this chip - Nvidia APX 2500, and below is a video of this device in action.
