Yesterday, we wrote about Honda Cyber Shorts that help people walk, today we have even more interesting news. By the way, judging by the amount of such news, from the Japanese in about 20 years, only the brain and mechanical limbs will remain, controlled by thought and supported by “mechanical underpants” :). But jokes aside: scientists from Osaka University, known for its technical achievements, are developing robotic human limbs that can be controlled by the power of thought. It is useless to talk about the usefulness of this invention, in the world, unfortunately, there are many people who have lost any part of the body as a result of an accident, an act of terrorism, etc. Get yourself a mighty iron hand (a la Jax from Mortal Kombat) and cruelly take revenge on everyone - what is not a reward for years of torment in typing with one hand in ICQ :)?

However, scientists are currently facing a very interesting problem. All the equipment has been ready for a long time and is waiting for volunteers at the university hospital, where experienced doctors will closely monitor them, software that decrypts the signals is successfully developed by the Faculty of Precision Engineering of the University of Tokyo, it remains only to find people willing to let their skull open to connect the electrodes to the cortex brain. A “leaf” with electrodes can be attached from without trepanation, however, only in the case of direct contact of the electrodes with at least the cerebral cortex, above the center responsible for the motor functions of a person, it is possible to achieve 80% accuracy in the actions of a cyber manipulator.
Naturally, the greatest accuracy can be achieved by implanting the electrodes directly into the brain, but scientists have decided not to take such a risk. They have already conducted a series of experiments, registering the waves that the brain emits when making a movement. Currently, the hand is considered by scientists as the “first limb”. They measured brain signals arising from various movements of the hand, elbow, or fingers. At this stage, not only the accuracy of decoding the brain signal will be checked, but also the effect of the presence of electrodes in the cranium on the experimental state of health, and whether this will cause epilepsy or other side effects. And the hedgehog is clear that if the experiment with the hand is successful, then the creation of a “cybernoga” is a matter of technology. And then not far off and the creation of cyber- ...;)
