Alan Cooper. Mental hospital in the hands of patients

Those who are interested in usability and engagement design issues should already read this book. If you have not done so already, then I hope this short review will move you to action.
First of all, I would like to note that this book is a justification, not a guide book. In the introduction, Alan mentions this and asks for forgiveness from the designers who expected to see the so-called mat.part in the book. However, in Part IV, “Designing Interaction — A Profitable Business,” the reader will be able to familiarize, superficially, with the techniques and design tools that Cooper uses: creating characters, setting goals, an “imagine” exercise, and others. The book contains quite interesting examples of designing the interaction of the electronic system P @ ssport for Sony, Logitech scanner software, and Elemental Drumbeat website development software. For me personally, getting to know this book has become a familiarity with the practice of character design, whose evangelist is Alan Cooper. Designing to meet the goals and needs of a specific character, rather than an abstract user, is perhaps the solution you were looking for, trying to improve the quality of your software products.
In the light of the fact that there is not enough literature on usability in Russian, each translated book, especially by practicing authors of this level, is of great interest. And participation as a scientific editor Alexei Kopylov (UI Design Group) ensured the accuracy of definitions and the correspondence of concepts to their meanings.
To be objective, I’ll mention one, but noticeable drawback of the book: cover design, paper quality of pages and illustrations. Because The book is intended primarily for a business audience and encourages managers to implement design, then the aesthetics of how this is presented is of great importance. I would very much like the Symbol Plus publishing house (whose contribution to the development of the IT community in the CIS countries, thanks to the publication of books by O'reilly and others in Russian, is enormous) would pay attention to this point.
