"File Wash" is gaining popularity

With increasing pressure on P2P networks from law enforcement agencies and ISPs, anonymous file storages, the so-called “file cleaners,” become more and more relevant. They are already generating quite serious traffic across the Web. For example, they account for 9% of all Internet traffic in the Middle East and 4.57% of German traffic, according to the latest statistics from iPoque . In the diagram, these services are shown in the “DDL” column (Direct Download Links).

The total number of DDL services on the Internet has already exceeded six dozen. The leader is RapidShare.com, which controls 55% of the market. In second place is MegaUpload.com with 17%.

However, P2P is still the most popular way to transmit information on the World Wide Web, creating the maximum load on international communication channels. Among P2P technologies, BitTorrent and eDonkey dominate (66.7% and 28.59% in Germany).
