TrueBSD - FreeBSD for Beginners

    Minsk student Alexei Sokolov released a release candidate for the second version of TrueBSD OS - LiveDVD based on the 7th branch of FreeBSD. The system is intended primarily for novice FreeBSD users, and is positioned by the author as a desktop OS, can be installed on a hard disk and has full backward compatibility with FreeBSD. You can install binary packages from the seventh branch of FreeBSD into the system, as well as ports. TrueBSD can be used by system administrators to diagnose and restore the system.

    A year has passed since the release of release 0.1, but the new version of the system has version number 2.0. According to the author of the OS, this is connected not only with a huge number of changes in the system, but also with the established tradition in the community of users of the system to call version 0.1 - the first, and the new release - the second version.

    Here is a description of the innovations from the project website :
    * Instead of a CD-ROM, a DVD-ROM with a huge set of software is used (including KDE, Gnome, Compiz / Beryl, Amarok, OpenOffice.org);
    * Support for UTF-8 “out of the box” (except for the system console! It still uses 8-bit encodings);
    * The transition to the 7th branch of FreeBSD has been completed (this opens up a number of advantages to the user, which can be found on the website www.FreeBSD.org );
    * Transition to the modular X-server Xorg version 7.X;
    * Support for Adobe Flash technology in all browsers installed in the system;
