Opium for the people - new IM

Those who use the Miranda multiprotocol client , or rather its HotCoffee assembly , and especially those who regularly read their forum, know that the author of this assembly, Egoist , is going to create another client called “Opium” . This will be a program written from scratch.

With this post I want to start monitoring the development of this project, since, judging by the words of Egoist, it will compete with both its HotCoffee assembly and the popular QIP, Miranda and ICQ.

Not so long ago, the author slightly opened the veil of secrecy about "Opium":

    • Opium is based on the free libpurple IM engine used in clients such as Pidgin and Adium .
    • Unlike the above clients, Opium will be completely cross-platform (it can work in Windows, MacOS X and Linux) thanks to the use of its own unified interface rendering technology (working name Smoke Framework), which is planned to be separated into a separate commercial product over time (the client will remain free )
    • The new client will be even more socialized, with a new community center on a completely redesigned web-resource, which should be launched in late October.
    • Due to the large amount of additional work (refinement, debugging, testing and preparation of official specifications of the Smoke Framework API for third-party developers, development of a fundamentally new community home) and my preparation for passing the MCPD certificate (http://www.microsoft.com/learning /mcp/mcpd/default.mspx), the release dates for the first public versions of Opium will be announced no earlier than the end of this year.
    • Work on improving the current HotCoffee project will not be discontinued until the release of Opium.
    • In the first versions of Opium, only one protocol is likely to be available. This is either ICQ or Jabber.
    • Emoticons will not be from standard existing sets.
    • Thoughtful and intuitive settings dialog.

Egoist also promises a “completely revolutionary interface” and writes that he has already assembled a team to create and promote Opium.

Now on the main page there is such a picture:

We are waiting for the community to open. It is logical to assume that other details about this client will open with him.
