Netcraft: Microsoft halves Apache lag in one year

    Microsoft vs Apache
According to Netcraft, an Internet monitoring company, over the past year, the share of Web sites running Microsoft products has nearly halved the gap from the Apache Open Source Web server.
The latest Netcraft study for July 2007 included over 125.6 million Web sites (up 3.62 million from the previous month). The results of this study showed that over the past month, the share of active sites running under Apache fell by -1.13 percent, amounting to 49.98%. At the same time, the number of Web sites running Microsoft products has grown by 0.5%, to 35.53%.
Thus, at the moment, the gap between Microsoft and Apache is about 14.5%, which is more than half the advantage of Apache as of July 2006 (then it was 33.4%).

If that goes on, Microsoft has a real chance to capture the hosting market. It should be noted that Microsoft hosting has the ability to host both ASP + MSSQL and PHP + MySQL sites.
