Cellular Internet Phone from T-Mobile

T-Mobile has announced the release of a new phone that works both in conventional cellular networks and transmits calls over the Internet via Wi-Fi. Perhaps T-Mobile HotSpot Home promises no less than a revolution in the field of mobile communications.

The idea that T-Mobile is trying to implement is simple and brilliant. If a subscriber using the services of this cellular company is ready to pay $ 10 in excess of the tariff plan chosen by him, then he will receive a new special telephone for his use. The device operates in two modes: as a regular cellular (also “eats” minutes and a monthly fee according to the tariff) and as a regular cellular, but via the Internet. That is, if there is a Wi-Fi access point nearby, then the voice is transmitted not over cellular networks, but through the global network. For the subscriber, everything remains the same. Calls are made, incoming calls are identified, in general, no difference is noticeable. With one caveat: in this case, you do not need to pay a cent for communication.

And T-Mobile HotSpot Homefully automatically switches between the two modes of operation. Go yourself, talk telephone conversations, pay at the same time for every minute. We’ve got into the Wi-Fi “coverage area” and (wait a minute, though) don’t pay anymore - switching to Wi-Fi is done without the slightest click of a button or any additional actions. Already good. But T-Mobile went even further. If the subscriber deigns to put extra $ 50 on his account (one-time), then the quick specialists of this mobile giant will immediately “present” him a wireless router for home use. If the Internet is unlimited, then calls using T-Mobile HotSpot Home will, of course, be free.

The only thing that is not pleasing in this whole story is the lack of prospects for getting such a phone (and starting to use it) with us, both in Russia and in the entire post-Soviet space. True, it is not yet known exactly when T-Mobile HotSpot Home will appear in the States. But this is a matter of time.
