Google Web History is criticized

The Web History service , quietly introduced by Google at the end of March, is criticized by opponents of invasion of privacy. This, we recall, has happened before (perusal of mail in Gmail, for example, was not to the liking of many).

The very idea of the service is not bad - Web History allows you to store data about user visits to web pages on a Google server, allowing you to quickly return to the desired page. This service is purely voluntary and turned off by default, but the Electronic Privacy Information Center, together with two parties to it, filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission with a request to examine Web History in more detail.

According to zealous advocates of privacy, Google does not inform users that the Web History service is monitoring them, and most web surfers have no idea that they are being watched by "someone tricky and big."
