Gates: Internet will transform television in 5 years

“I’m stunned how people don’t see this in relation to TV, in five years people will laugh at what we had.” This was said after a detailed explanation of why Gates believes that in the coming years the Internet will provoke a revolution in the usual television. The development of video services, the constant expansion of communication channels and the gradual transformation of the computer into a multifunctional multimedia center will surely do its job in this direction.
The network has already forced many, mostly young people, to reduce the time spent behind the “box”, or completely abandon the TV. Accustomed to the wide availability of interesting programs and operational news, and most importantly, to being able to easily influence the program guide themselves, viewers already see many shortcomings in conventional television.
“Certain things like elections or the Olympics really show how terrible television is. You have to wait until the guy talks about something interesting to you or you miss an event and want to come back and see it, ”says Gates. But this TV does not allow, and besides, it is constantly interrupting its broadcasting with annoying advertising blocks.
Today, the Internet and TV are considered completely different things, but the changes, the unification of these two media spaces, are close, according to Gates. The arrival of mobile TV broadcast in cellular networks will especially help this process.
New advertising models, which the resulting hybrid will undoubtedly need, will be developed including on the YouTube service, which , among other things , was told by its co-founder Chad Hurley.
