ROMIR Monitoring: Runet audience reduced slightly

The next quarterly report was released by the research holding ROMIR Monitoring , according to which in the second quarter of 2006, the Runet audience amounted to 19% of Russian residents aged 18+, that is, about 21 million people.

Comparing the new results with ROMIR data for the first quarter of this year, a 3% reduction in the Network’s audience is evident - from 22% to 19%. Researchers do not attach much importance to this fact: “The reduction in the share of Internet users by three percentage points is insignificant, since it is comparable to the size of the statistical error acceptable for a sample of 1600 respondents for each wave of research,” they say.

In addition, ROMIR associates this slight reduction with seasonal fluctuations, a large number of holidays in May and the beginning of the holiday season.

So, according to the report, for the II quarter of this year, 16% of respondents use the Internet one or several times a week, and 6% use it daily. The monthly audience of the Network, as already mentioned, amounted to 19% of Russian residents over 18 years of age.

Researchers note a marked decrease in the number of Internet users in the North-West and Siberian regions. At the same time, the Central Federal District (29% of Internet users), Volga (18%) and Siberian (15%) stand out in the regional picture of the distribution of users.

The level of income of respondents, as before, directly correlates with their attention to the Web: among people with high earnings, the percentage of Internet users is greater. In the II quarter, a significant share of the Internet audience is still made up of users with income of more than 5,000 rubles, while most of them are online more often than representatives of less affluent groups.

Most of all Internet users among managers are 47%, students and pupils 45%, and qualified specialists 36%. The latter worked most actively on the Web, it was among them the most representatives of the daily and weekly Runet audience.
