Visa and Nokia packed a credit card in a mobile phone
Credit cards in plastic is a technology of the past. Visa has launched the world's first contactless smart card service integrated into a mobile phone.
Pilot program Mobile Visa Wave launched in Malaysia in conjunction with the manufacturer of mobile phones Nokia. This is the first step towards creating a universal "electronic wallet", which in the future may become a familiar and integral accessory for every person. In principle, such an “electronic wallet” can be integrated into any mobile device, whether it be a laptop, smartphone or PDA.
Malay project uses Visa Wave contactless smart card technologyin which a radio chip is used instead of a magnetic strip. Thus, you can read information from the card at a short distance from it (as in transport cards for Moscow trains).
Visa Wave cards appeared two years ago, and now there are approximately 4 million such cards in the world, mainly in the USA. From Asian countries, these cards are only available in Malaysia, Taiwan and South Korea. Soon they will also appear in Japan and other countries in the region.
Testing Visa Wave cards integrated into the mobile phone will last four months. New technology will be tested on 200 Malaysian Visa Wave card holders, reportsAP. Each of them, along with a familiar smart card, will receive a prototype Nokia 3230 mobile phone with an integrated Visa Wave chip. With this device, you can make payments in stores and service points equipped with conventional Visa Wave readers, such as two and a half thousand in Malaysia.
According to Visa representatives, the creation of an electronic wallet based on a mobile phone is a completely natural stage in the development of technology. Having chosen Malaysia as a testing ground for new technologies, the company’s management expects that by the end of this year up to 10% of all Visa cards will work in a non-contact way, and in three to five years there will be the majority.
