Music Publishers vs. DRM

A new study from Jupiter Research found that nearly two-thirds (62%) of music industry executives oppose using DRM systems in digital music sales. At the same time, 54% agreed that the current state of affairs with DRM is too clearly infringing on consumer rights.

The study was conducted in December and January, that is, even before the sensational letter of Steve Jobs.

Despite the fact that most senior executives, especially in large labels, believe that the abolition of the use of protection systems will give an impetus to online sales, and even the entire industry, they are not going to do it yet.

According to the authors of the report, existing strategies for the development of record companies are too much tied to the use of DRM and their rejection promises too much change, frankly scaring market players.
