
"Extremely critical" hole detected in Microsoft Word 2000
Microsoft has notified users of a new “zero-day” vulnerability in Microsoft Word 2000. The
vulnerability allows an attacker to execute arbitrary program code on an attacked machine. It is enough for the victim to open a specially formatted DOC file, which is incorrectly processed by a text editor, after which the hacker gets full access to the system. Last Friday , Secunia reported the vulnerability , assigning it the status of "extremely critical." The Microsoft site already described the error , although the company is trying to minimize the danger of this hole.
