The ice continues to crack: 1C 8.1 runs on Linux

On December 27, 1C announced the release of version 8.1 of the 1C: Enterprise platform running Linux. Under Linux, two of the three links can work: a cluster server and a database server, on which PostgreSQL can now be used as a DBMS. The client still works only under Windows, but its support will be added to WINE @ Etersoft 1.0.6, which is scheduled for release in February 2007.

In the Linux community, this event caused a different color of commentary, but it seems to me that its importance cannot be denied: this is a very serious step that demonstrates gigantic shifts in the heads of people making such decisions. On the practical side of the matter, it’s too early to judge - now we need to see how all this takes off. However, the prospects for the goodies received from the introduction of such a system seem quite promising.
