Roskomnadzor will recheck Wikipedia articles on drugs
As already reported at Geektimes, Roskomnadzor almost put Wikipedia on the list of resources prohibited in the Russian Federation. The reason is an article on drugs posted by Wikipedia editors. We are talking about 7 articles that contain information on the methods of production and use of drugs (“MDMA”, “Methamphetamine”, “Amphetamines”, “Cocaine”), as well as methods of suicide (“Suicide”, “Methods of suicide”, “Self-immolation” ) After the article was amended, the officials decided not to block Wiki in the Russian Federation.
Now the department is planningto re-analyze Wikipedia articles, with the involvement of experts from state authorized bodies who have decided to include these articles in the registry. Additional analysis is necessary to determine the degree to which current versions of materials comply with legal requirements.
Moreover, the discussion will be held in an open format, and the editors of Wikipedia will also take part in the discussion.
The website of Roskomnadzor says the following: “during the existence of a single register of prohibited information, 34 entries were made in it regarding 22 articles of the Internet encyclopedia. Of these, 22 entries are based on decisions of the Federal Drug Control Service (drugs), 11 entries are based on decisions of the Rospotrebnadzor (suicide methods), 1 entry is based on a court decision (article “Charas, drugs)”.
