Apple announces new Trade-in program for broken iPhone

Welcome iCover Blog Readers ! According to the online edition of The Verge, in the coming days, Apple plans to launch a new Trade-in program in which owners of faulty iPhones will be able to exchange their idle gadgets for new ones with a fixed surcharge. The compensation cost for the iPhone 5S , iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models will be, respectively, $ 50, $ 200 and $ 250. Compensation funds will be credited to a special gift card. Cashing funds from the card is not provided.

Thus, the scheme of the new Trade-in program is almost no different from the previously announced Apple Store Reuse and Recycle iPhone. At the same time, there is one fundamental difference in it. Devices accepted for replacement with a surcharge in the framework of previous programs should not have obvious mechanical damage: cracks on the screen, case or camera.

Under the new program, which, according to The Verge, Apple launches just this week, iPhone will be accepted with obvious defects: cracks on the screen surface, an injured camera and buttons. The degree of damage that should remain within “reasonable limits” (without comment) will be assessed by specialists of authorized service centers. That is, The Verge jokes, if your smartphone moved a truck or fell out of a window of a high-rise building, then most likely you will not be lucky again.

The publication notes that it will be of certain value in the assessment that the time it will be possible to use the device from the time of purchase will have. Thus, the “limits and criteria of reasonableness” by which the degree of damage will be assessed in the framework of the new compensation program remain behind the scenes.

Apple’s motivation is understandable - to stimulate those customers who were forced to find themselves in a suspended position due to the need for costly repair of a damaged display to buy a new device. As for devices with defects, after recovery “within reasonable limits” they can be implemented in the markets of developing countries, which Apple has been quite successfully practicing in relation to its products for more than one day and a year.

According to information published in the same material, Apple Retail Stores employees will now offer customers the option of installing protective films on smartphones, which will be very useful for many buyers of new iPhones. It is clear that the service is provided free of charge only formally - before installing the protective film, you still have to purchase it in the same store. To install the tread, special Belkin devices will be used, which in the near future should appear in the authorized centers of the company.
