Oculus Rift opened pre-orders VR helmets

Hello everyone, we decided to open our VRDevice corporate blog with great news:
The Oculus Rift company, which is developing a virtual reality helmet, has finally opened the possibility of pre-ordering the first consumer versions of its devices.

A Brief History of Oculus Rift

Oculus Rift are not pioneers in the field of VR. In the 90s, the first attempts to create such devices by other companies were unsuccessful due to the lack of the level of development of computer and mobile technologies that was necessary at that time. Oculus presented their first version for developers of Oculus Dev Kit 1 in 2012 on kickstarter, successfully collecting the required amount. The first version had 3 degrees of freedom, a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 and a viewing angle of 110 degrees.
In the spring of 2014, Oculus was bought by Facebook for 2 billion. $. In the summer of 2014, the second version of Oculus Dev Kit 2 was released, which already had a 1920x1080 screen, 6 degrees of freedom and a viewing angle of 100 degrees:

The first consumer version of the device has a surround sound system in the form of built-in headphones, Positional Tracking and (according to sources not yet fully confirmed) 2 screens with a resolution of 1200x1080.

The set does not include Oculus Touch wireless controllers, whose release they decided to postpone

until the fall of 2016. Until pre-orders are available only for 20 countries, which, unfortunately, did not include Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, etc.
The cost of pre-order is $ 599 and 699 euros for the European part. Delivery time varies from March 2016.

If you have the option of shipping to an address in the number of permitted countries, then pre-order can be done on the official Oculus website .
For those who supported Oculus in the first campaign on kickstarter, devices will be sent for free!

    Virtual reality trend

2016 has already been marked as the year of virtual reality, which can undoubtedly be considered as the starting point for the popularization and growth of virtual reality technologies.
In addition to the Oculus Rift this year, other large players, such as HTC Vive and Sony with their helmet for the Play Station 4 console, should enter this new and promising market.
In Russia, there are also projects of devices / technologies for virtual / augmented reality. Representatives of some of them are currently at the CES 2016 annual consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, which runs January 6 through 9.
We wish them all good luck!
