Wendelstein 7-X first launch date set

December 10 revives the "layout of an alien starship" stellarator Wendelstein 7-X. After the completion of the first stage of assembly and inspection in November of the machine by the German atomic control for radiation and radiotoxic safety (in terms of deuterium leaks), permission to start was obtained. The first stage in the next six months will not include any kind of scientific program, we are talking exclusively about checking the machine. These will be launches lasting less than a second with 1 or 2 megawatts of electron-cyclotron ( what is it ?) Heating, first on helium, then on hydrogen plasma. After six months of testing, the machine will go to correct the identified jambs and install an uncooled divertor (an element for removing heat and contaminants from the plasma, using the ITER divertor as an example)

) This will be followed by a one-year, already scientific, program with high-power hydrogen plasma lasting up to 10 seconds. After that, the divertor will be converted to the cooled version, and finally the main thing will begin, including 16 megawatt D + D test launches lasting up to half an hour.

Interestingly, on the basis of this purely laboratory plasma installation, power plants are already fantasized:
