From today you can try Skype Translator

The official Skype blog says that a preview test of the Skype Translator service has begun, which anyone can join with Windows 8.1 (or Windows 10) installed, after registering here . We are talking about translating in “almost” real time a voice or video call into the language of the interlocutor; English and Spanish are currently supported.

You can get an idea of the mechanics of the service from a video demonstration:

Although the list of platforms and languages is now limited, when registering for testing, you can make sure that Microsoft plans to release Translator on many platforms (possibly even Windows XP), including mobile ones; Russian can also be indicated as preferred.

In the video below, cited by Microsoft, children from Mexico City and Tacoma, Washington, play a game trying to figure out where the interlocutor’s school is located.

From a subjective point of view, Hispanic colleagues who have to communicate in English rated the translation as acceptable. Moreover, the translation from Spanish into English of relatively short phrases (“This test failed” or “Rename Angular's controller”) lasts slightly longer than the reverse. With computer terminology, which, however, sounds similar in both languages, the service also coped.
