How to get a popular community in 25 days and $ 69

The story of how in 25 days I got a community with 2,000 people a day, spending $ 69 on it.

    Prehistory
It all started with the fact that one Saturday evening I stumbled upon the article “Cool Hunters” in the magazine “Secret of the Firm”. The article was about coolers (hunter for fashion trends).
One of the reviews was dedicated to the emo subculture. The youth trend was analyzed by specialists in order to identify features and further transfer of data to marketers. The article had a wonderful definition, I liked it terribly: emo are Goths that their parents did not let into the cemetery.
Until that moment, I knew little about emo, all my knowledge was limited to reading one article, the contents of which I managed to fairly forget.
The material in the company’s Secret aroused my interest in emo. After reading several articles and watching the community emo, I had the idea to create my own community. The main goal of creating the project: to try to promote the community from scratch, to experiment with methods of attracting visitors.

    Day One
I immediately decided that the community would be on the liveinternet.ru platform. Firstly, a lot of emo kiddies live there, secondly, I well know the mechanisms of the service, thirdly, it is possible to attach a second-level domain.
I needed a second-level domain, since from the very beginning I planned to attract a significant part of traffic from search engines. For these purposes, name.ru is more suitable than liveinternet.ru/users/name.
As always, all the good domains were occupied by cybersquatters. After reviewing several options, I opted for www.emo-emo.ru.
After registering a domain, a community was created on LiRu. The name emo-emo was taken (not to mention just emo or emo). Not going to sort out further, registered as emoemo. Later I realized that the name is not very successful, because the domain through a dash, the name of the Emo-Emo community sounds better, and emoemo will be displayed in internal links and LiveInternet ratings. Confusion is possible.
Next, we compose the semantic core of the blog using wordstat.yandex.ru and open statistics of site counters on similar topics. Cost: $ 19 per domain. Second day

First of all, you need to write several messages in the community before attracting users to it. The community should not be empty. I publish posts of a general nature - who are emo, that they listen to how they dress.
Next, I create categories, a list of interests, and a diary title using words from the semantic core. The list of interests is an important thing; users of the service will come for similar interests. The title tells what the community is about.
I was lucky on the second day of the existence of the community - I found a moderator. More precisely, he found me. I was sent a personal message by an emo girl with a proposal to help in the moderation and promotion of the community. (She would have known how she guessed with the promotion). I gladly accepted her help. The moderator is vital, especially in communities such as emo, where there are increased risks for littering the community, due to the characteristics of the age category of its participants.
A girl understands the subculture better than I do - together we edit the name of the headings. Community Attendance: 18 people. The first week After adding the first topics, diary title, headings and a list of interests, I make up the rules. They are simple but necessary:

Any advertising in the community is prohibited (punishment up to ban).
Hide large pictures under the tag more = further.
Do not write in giant and color fonts! Express your feelings with words, not letter sizes!
Respect other members of the community.
    Do not flood.

I am starting the active stage of the site’s search promotion: registration in catalogs, buying links. Costs: $ 25 for registration in catalogs. Second week I advertise the community in other communities specifically designed to advertise diaries and notify about the emergence of new communities.

I create a button and a container to place the button code. I publish them in the epigraph of the diary so that anyone who wants to support the community can post a button on their blog.
I publish articles about emo groups, optimizing the text and title of the post for specific search queries. I put links to newly created topics. In total, the blog advances in 3 dozen requests.
Queries gradually appear in the search, attendance is growing, and the number of regular readers is growing. On the tenth day, the number of blog visitors reaches 1000 people. Costs: $ 25 to purchase links. Third and fourth weeks In fact, community development is left to chance. I just expect the output of queries to the first places in search engines.

After appearing in the top, the number of conversions from the search increases, attendance reaches 2000 people per day.

    The
Community is now steadily holding the second place in terms of the number of visitors among all the community liveinternet.ru. 203 regular readers (although here I was expecting to see a large number). 125 blog entries.

Of course, if the theme of the community was different, its promotion would take more time and effort. In this case, we can say that I just grabbed the fashion trend, which, incidentally, according to experts of the company’s Secret, is already declining.

PS. A few words about what this community is giving me now. I put a thematic link to a friendly resource about to publish articles about emo culture. CTR links pleasantly surprised me: 9-11% stable. There were days when the number of clicks reached 12-13% of the total number of visitors.
A week after creating the community, I was knocked on with an offer of advertising. They didn’t apply anymore, apparently the price indicated by me frightened off. Today there was an attempt from other people, and I agreed with their proposal. Start experimenting with monetizing your blog.
