1C: Summer School 2015 - how to organize a “smart” vacation for young programmers - part 1. Who studied what, daily routine, carrot and stick

In this publication we will try to tell (and show a little) how 1C: Club of Programmers held the next summer school. We will be glad to receive feedback in the comments.

    Background

Almost 5 years ago, 1C Company created the 1C: Club of Programmers project to arouse interest in programming among schoolchildren. And every year the number of schoolchildren who are studying under the project is growing steadily, which, of course, cannot but rejoice. The entire main training process runs from October to April inclusive. Having looked at the idea of holding a summer school at a wonderful LKS, we decided to try to do something similar for our children. And now the 4th summer school has shone with brilliance throughout the country. In 2015 - this is more than 1000! students. On the basis of the main office of 1C Firm on Dmitrovskoye Highway, d.9. The past summer school was the largest of all: 59 students took part in it, this is an absolute record.

    Who and what studied

In 1C: Summer School'15, the students studied 4 disciplines:
    - Fundamentals of Java programming (see Java for students: learning through the creation of games )
    - System administration for students (see Sys.adminstvo as leisure or “Son, do it at home already” wi-fi " )
    - Algorithms. Olympiad programming. Starter module (see Yellow bike with red wheels or another course of algorithms from 1C )
    - Management of software development (see About me, about 1C school and the June module of the course "Management of software development" )

We are all they tried their best to prevent the summer school from turning into a boring “obligatory”, for which parents paid.
We united the guys who are engaged in the same course into teams, gave them names and mottos. Here's how it sounded:
    - The java source command . It so happened that this course was not generally planned at summer school'15 and we conducted it exclusively for students of the Boarding School of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The girls became a true decoration of the summer school and wonderfully fit into the number of participants in 1C: Club of Programmers.
The motto of the team: "It is written once - it works everywhere"
    - Team "Olympians" . We had: almost 30 children, 2 cool teachers, a bunch of solved Olympiad problems, the final contest and achievements (we’ll tell you more about them).
The motto of the team: “We need more gold”
    - Team “System”. These are people in general from a parallel universe, living their lives among mountains of components.
The motto of the team: “Have you tried to reboot?”
    - “Managers” team . These are very serious guys, it’s even dangerous to joke about them.
The motto of the team: "This is not a royal matter"

    "Carrot and stick"

We have introduced a system of rewards and punishments. Encouragement served as “achievements”. They were given out on various occasions, mainly for academic success. The accumulated achievements at the end of the summer school could be exchanged for any of the prizes (there were a lot of them). Toward the end of the summer school, an awkward struggle unfolded for achievements, but EVERYONE got the prizes. For the guys who had 1-3 achievements, we gave out an encouraging sweetness - 150 chocolates were purchased for this. The punishments were very humane =) Late for the morning scrum should have been wrung out exactly as many times as how many minutes late. And at the end of the shift, we deprived all achievements of malicious violators of discipline.
True, before the final defense and receiving prizes, everything was returned to the violators who realized their wrongness =)

We added a bit of “social responsibility” and announced a competition for the best summer school blogger. The idea was to broadcast news about the summer school'15 in different social networks vk, facebook or instagramm. The best blogger on the last day received a bunch of achievements, which allowed him to choose the best of the presented prizes. The guys on their own initiative created their own group in vk, where they reposted all the news collected about the summer school'15 on the hashtag # 1c_summer.
In turn, we also kept a record of our daily adventures.
