Shuttleworth named the name of the Ubuntu 10.10 mascot

Mark Shuttleworth named the mascot Ubuntu 10.10 on his blog , scheduled for release on October 28, 2010.

The new mascot is the Maverick Meerkat.

I will leave the exact translation to the team of localizers, but, in general, the word “maverick” means an animal that is not branded, and “meerkat” means a meerkat, or thin-tailed myrrh, a species of mammals from the mongoose family. A kind of “individualist myrrhkat.” :)

According to Shuttleworth, myrrhkats are light, fast and sociable, that is, they possess the qualities that the development team and users want to see in “Perfect 10”.
