Invitation to FOSDEM 2015
Friends, FOSDEM this weekend! The following are expected at the ReactOS booth : Colin Finck, Pierre “HeisSpiter” Schweitzer, Giannis “smiley” Adamopoulos - we will see each other for the first time (not only me, but the rest of the team have never met him until this moment), and I, Alekesy “Fireball” Bragin - I am very pleased to be back at this wonderful event.
In general, FOSDEM is the No. 1 exhibition / conference on free software on the European continent. The first time it took place in 2001, it was organized by Raphael Bauduin (by the way, I have an invitation to FOSDEM signed by him personally) co-comrades. Now the event brings together more than 5 thousand free software developers from around the world.
An interesting fact: in the original, the name was OSDEM (you might think that this is a conference about operating systems, but it's just an Open Source Developers European Meeting), but the ubiquitous Richard Stallman here ascribed the word Free to the name. Well, albeit not GNU \ OSDEM
FOSDEM is traditionally held in the buildings of the Free University of Brussels - ULB, founded, by the way, by Freemason Pierre-Theodore Verhaegen. The name is usually not translated, because with freedom in its current understandings there is not much in common.
The monument to the founder stands at the main building of the university (it reminds me of the State Technical University and the Bauman monument). In general, this is an old and very reputable non-governmental educational institution.
For FOSDEM, everything is already assembled and we are starting to pull ourselves to the place of our meeting. I got by plane, the Germans travel by train, and Giannis from Greece, in theory, is already there. Another good man named Nuno told me about another small open source event that will take place today. This is FLOSS Community Metrics Meeting. There they will discuss various open source metrics and tools for these metrics. I also applied for participation, let's see if I can tell you something about ReactOS. If you have interesting ideas, express in the comments.
