What Habrovsk citizens carry with them, or boast of EDC (+ Thule TCBP-217 backpack review)

Every day, the amount of electronics that a person takes with him outside the house is growing, and despite its total decrease and relief, the number of gadgets in individual individuals can be a very long list. The question is: what to wear? Yes, so that is convenient and safe for electronics? Today I’ll talk about a suitable 32-liter geek backpack Thule TCBP217 and, of course, I invite everyone to the EDC thread .

    Caution: a lot of pictures!

    ► About the manufacturer

The Swedish company Thule is known as a manufacturer of various accessories for convenient transportation of things, whether it be bicycle mounts or a backpack, the experience of which I will share today. The Swedes made a good Russian-language official website with a detailed description of all the products, their own video reviews and even a FAQ on certain products, so I advise you to read it .

    ► Appearance and wearing comfort

Thule TCBP217 is the largest backpack in the company's portfolio, its volume is 32 liters, and 17-inch models fit perfectly into the laptop compartment.

In front there is a strap for fixing the backpack on the chest. The length and position of the fastener can be adjusted. I, in turn, removed it altogether, because I do not need it.

The latches on the straps are made of metal, and the backpack itself is made of nylon, which guarantees the safety of your gadgets in the event of rain. True, there is a small snag, all lightnings with the exception of one are devoid of any kind of moisture protection, so with prolonged exposure to rain some amount of moisture can still leak.

The highlight of the backpack is the shockproof polyurethane compartment for storing glasses or other valuables. By the way, this is the same department, the lightning of which has moisture protection, so that even in heavy rain the contents will not get wet.

To protect your gadgets from intruders, an additional hook is provided on the dog, which clings to the elastic at the end of the zipper.

The front pocket is spacious enough and designed for essentials. As an engineering student, I carry a large number of different offices there.

Another waterproof pocket. :) Suitable for documents or other valuable things.

Side pockets are equipped with elastic bands, which prevents things from falling out. A thermos flock settled on one of the pockets, while the other plays the role of a backup.

There is another fun department called the company itself as “Shove-it Pocket”. The manufacturer suggests wearing a sweater, replaceable shoes or, if the backpack is very full, a newspaper or a magazine.

The carry handle, unfortunately, is not made in the best way. In a backpack of this volume, it should at least be thicker and longer, and not only be attached in the middle of the upper edge, but also go to the side. Thus, the mass of the backpack is distributed and it is easier to hold it in your hands (useful in public transport).

On the bottom of the backpack is another pocket, for example, for a charger. It’s empty for me, because often I have to leave the backpack on the floor / ground.

The department closest to the back is given for larger gadgets. As stated by the manufacturer, models with a display diagonal of up to 17 inches will fit in the compartment under the laptop, and my 13-inch macbook looks completely drowned in this department.

Here are additional pockets for Powerbank, flash drives, hard drives. I almost forgot: another soft pocket for the tablet is sewn to the compartment for the laptop.

And finally - the huge main department. Literally everything that a modern urbanist may need will fit in.

    ► Summary

A good urban backpack and the best of those that I had. The main criteria for choosing were sufficient sizes, more pockets for various equipment, a protected section for a laptop and, most importantly, a compartment for glasses. There were also minuses in the face of the lack of moisture protection on the zippers and not the most convenient handle for carrying. The back, by the way, is not ventilated, but personally, I have not yet met a rucksack when wearing which I did not sweat my back.

In Russia, a backpack can be purchased, for example, from Madrobots for 7,990 rubles. The price is not small, but the backpack, IMHO, is worth it. In addition, as usual, there is a discount for the Khabrovsk day - with a THULE code , a backpack costs almost a quarter cheaper - 6,500 rubles for delivery on June 17.

The same code works for all other backpacks of the same company, TCBP-117 with it will cost 4,800, TCSP-213 - 4,250 , and TAS-113 - 1,600 rubles.

Now let's start the EDC thread.

    ► EDC thread

The other day, with vvzvlad, we got the idea to see what the residents of the Habr every day move with, what gadgets they use, in general, what they consist of for every day. To begin with, we did a newsletter for acquaintances with a request to share our EDC, well, and then we hope for your comments on the topic.

A few days before that, I found thinglink.com . The service allows you to hang tags with comments on the pictures, which would ideally fit our post, but the code built into the post did not work. Nevertheless, just in case, I will put a link to the picture, maybe this service will seem more convenient to someone than just a textual description of what is in the photo.

As the creator of the thread, I'll start with myself. At the moment I am studying in the first year of the Faculty of Radio Engineering at the Kiev Polytechnic, respectively, the main activity is study. Stationery dominates in the backpack, but gadgets of all kinds also do not lose ground. Of the interesting things, I would like to mention the Powerball , which I wrote about last summer - I use it myself and I sit down everyone I meet. The “smart” Nitecore SENS AA flashlight didn’t even appear in the photo , but you can find out about the rest by clicking on the picture.

The second will be vvzvlad as having a hand in the idea. Here is his EDC: My backpack is the easiest, Chinese, quite cheap and it is already falling apart, so I won’t show it. And here is what I have in my backpack and pockets every day:

    Description
Voice recorder (while walking from the metro you can dictate a couple of thoughts for the article), a very cool pen , a bunch of wires (including CulCharge ), Motorola MotoACTV , keys, a wet towel , guarana concentrate (if you suddenly need to stay up at night), a bank, a lot of checks (almost all - purchases for the store ), reserve 200 rubles in the back pocket, ANC9 headphones with active noise reduction, 10 ties, leatherman squirt es4, passport, metro card, pass to the office, discount cards to the most popular stores, payoneer card, debit and credit cards from alpha bank, xperia Z, iphone 5 (you can’t use it like a phone, there’s not even a SIM card, but there is a cool player, a good camera and there is an instagram), pebble, macbook pro.

    Well- known Boomburum :
For my everyday backpack, I use Manfrotto Stile Unica Red, a red and white shoulder bag designed for those who want to carry a laptop and a camera at the same time. Pretty comfortable thing, but the white fabric on it is very easily soiled, so it is better to take a brown or black version. You can get into the main sections of the bag in two ways: by unfastening the upper “covering” part (it is attached to the lock and Velcro), or by unfastening the zipper. There are two separate compartments: one under the laptop and the second under the photo-mooring. There are three sections under the photo-movers, and the partitions between them can be moved (they are with Velcro). The carcass of the camera easily fits, two lenses to it and all kinds of junk.

Another zipped compartment is at the bottom - it is usually empty. I fill it out only when I want to take a picture of something purposefully: a Velbon Ultra Maxi mini tripod, a charger for the camera and laptop battery, an optical cleaning kit and a belt for the camera are placed there. In short, a small bag, and allows you to carry everything you need.
The rest of the kit is as follows:
    • Macbook Pro 13 Notebook and iPad mini
    • Canon 6D DSLR with "universal" 24-105 + sometimes SIGMA 50mm 1.4 for photographing children
    • Two SanDisk 64Gb memory cards - one always in the camera, the second - just in case
    • Card reader for SD and microSD cards - for taking pictures from the camera and recordings from the DVR
    • DVI-Thunderbolt adapter - so you can always connect to the projector (in case of a seminar, for example)
    • External battery Sony CP-F5B at 5000mAh - accidentally bought it when I got the phone in the store, since then we haven’t parted
    • USB-Lightening cord + USB-microUSB cord with microUSB-Lightening adapter
    • USB adapter for charging a smartphone
    • Microfiber for wiping the camera and other devices
    • Chewing and Battery: Nuts or Snickers
    • Samsonite wallet / document holder
    • Car / House Keys

    Milfgard :
I have such a bag. It has 4 compartments, two pockets in the front and one suede pocket for a cell in the middle, plus a bunch of holders for business cards and pens. It is fastened with a magnet, it was chosen exactly according to the format of the tablet.

    Description
Inside, in fact, a tablet, two phones (work and personal - three devices cover all three operators), keys, a book (naturally different, now about cognitive dissonance), a noname shoe brush, every little thing (in this case, a coin, which I did not have time to lay out; chewing gum and candy; several other business cards and a map of the shooting club); metro travel with embossed sticker to be searched faster; fountain pen; personal and business cards; A small set with components for games, if an idea comes. The prototyping cards from the set also serve well instead of a small notebook. A piece of paper in the middle is a wish list that was recorded a year ago. You need to carry it with you until everything is done. Also in the bag is usually a comb and a camera - but the camera is in the hands, and the comb is in another bag after the road.

    PapaBubaDiop :
I live in a closed city. City of Sarov, I work in a technology park. Round trip - 16 miles. In fine weather, I ride a bike. We have been having good weather since April. A bike bag dangles on the buttocks.

The contents of the bike bag (left to right bottom row):
    • Money for lunch. Before the annexation of Crimea, 100 rubles was enough for lunch. Now - 200 rubles.
    • The key to the car. The car is at home. In it is the key to the house. In bad weather I go to work by car.
    • Pass to the city. Without a pass to the city do not enter, do not leave. Electronic, with a three-digit number protection. Kaspersky-style protection - each digit indicates the number of letters in the last name, first name, and patronymic. For example, a person named Khabrov Alizar Yanovich will have the number 666. It is ridiculous to watch the soldiers, who sometimes try to count the number of letters. It turns out not at all.
    • Old iPhone. I use it as a phone. Because a week you can not charge.
    • 4th iPhone. It has a corporate SIM card, which means free SMS and Internet. Yes, I also love a freebie.
    • 5th iPhone. I play it, debug new programs.
    • DORA. Measuring radiation. Stuck into any of the iPhone. Background, as a rule, is always normal, except for the plane. In flight, beautiful numbers and graphs of radiation are obtained. There is a strict correlation between the flight altitude and the background radiation level.

Candies didn’t get on the picture - I ate them in the morning with tea.

BarsMonster : Sansa Clip with Rockbox firmware, a bunch of metronchiks (the habit of collecting metro tickets has gone from the time of searching for Micron's metro chips , and it has taken root. A pass, a key fob on it is just a clip to cling to something. There is some money in the wallet, Yandex card .Money ( already 3 in a row - lies here on top, but it’s not the main one. Under it is an ordinary bank card. Meklon :

Folders with secret documents, the Acer Iconia Tab A701 tablet (I don’t use the built-in 3G, because I distribute the Internet from the phone), passport, rights and documents to the car, a mysterious piece of iron, a 3G modem from Megaphone, a bunch of wires, PowerBank, magnesium bar with pyrophoric flint - to light bonfires in the absence of lighters, 128 GB HDD (I use to give large amounts of information to people), 256 GB HDD (one of the sections is Kubuntu 14.04 for loading into your OS on other people's machines), an RFID key from the workers doors, multitool in the form of a key (screwdriver, file, knife, opener, etc.), key and from cars and houses, blank discs just in case, versatile bag with lots of compartments for cards and storage cables to the HDD, picture of his beloved wife five years ago on a napkin.

    Description:
Jiayu G4 Standart ( review and operating experience from Box Overview - Ed.), Has been serving me faithfully for a year now. Almost a year, I bought at the end of June last year. There are no glitches, the condition is normal, I wear without covers and films.

Lantern SC600w Mk II L2, surveyed it here . Also an indispensable assistant. You understand this only after you forget it by accident.

Knife. An ordinary Chinese knife. Small, comfortable. The knife should be in the EDC of any man, it does not matter, expensive or simple, but it should be. Otherwise, even there is nothing to cut the snack :)
A simple card reader, rescued more than once, also lying around in a bag.

Keychain binding. There’s another flashlight (yes, I love flashlights) - Thrunite Ti. This is a switch, with a very good one, on one AAA battery. A 32GB Kindston flash drive is also visible there, constantly losing it somewhere because of its small size (it’s hard to find it in a bag), so I hung it on the keys. XTAR SP1

charging for many sizes of lithium batteries, mostly 18650. Why carry it with you? It's simple: it has a Powerbank function. The USB connector produces 5V 1A. And instead of one healthy powerbank, I take it with me and as many batteries as I need. Unlocked HUAWEI E1550 from MTS. It often helps out if someone needs to configure something in the IT part, but there is no Internet.
