New IBM System z mainframe cloud solutions

IBM Introduces New System z Mainframe Cloud Solutions to Lower Operating Costs and Deploy Cloud Services Quickly In particular, IBM is announcing the first System z - based cloud platform , the IBM Enterprise Cloud System.

The integrated platform, IBM Enterprise Cloud System, is based on open standards and is designed for those customers who want to quickly deploy a secure cloud environment that can withstand critical loads. IBM also introduces a new flexible tariff plan that allows service providers to pay not for the total cost of the system, but only for the used computing capabilities.

The mainframe has unique advantages as an enterprise cloud infrastructure platform. It provides support for up to 6,000 virtual machines within a single system, a secure multi-tenant environment, and dynamic load balancing. Due to its high performance and easy scalability, the total cost of using System z cloud-based Linux platforms can be 55 percent lower than x86-based cloud infrastructure.

The IBM Enterprise Cloud System comes pre-installed with an automated cloud management and control system that accelerates the deployment of cloud services. This offer combines zEnterprise (zBC12 or zEC12), v7000 or DS8000 storage systems in combination with IBM z / VM, IBM Wave for z / VM or IBM Cloud Management Suite (SmartCloud Orchestrator, OMEGAMON XE and Tivoli Storage in one IaaS solution Manager). All this provides a base for infrastructure and fully automated cloud management. Using the IBM Enterprise Cloud System will help IT organizations and cloud service providers offer their customers an outstanding level of service and system that can withstand critical loads. Using the mainframe features in a cloud service removes potential security concerns and crashes,

The new billing system for System z - IBM MSP Utility Pricing - operates within the framework of IBM Global Financing and offers a pay-as-you-go system that makes the mainframe's technological capabilities available to Managed Service Providers (MSPs).

As more and more of the enterprise IT system loads on cloud services, customers are more likely to use mainframes as their cloud infrastructure platform. For example, Business Connexion (BCX), Africa’s largest provider of cloud services, is working on an innovative cloud-out-of-the-box service that will allow telecommunications companies to provide Internet access to previously unconnected regions. These mobile data centers will use the same amount of energy as home appliances. BCX will thus be able to provide Internet connectivity to 85 percent of Africans who previously had no network access.
