Highscreen Omega Prime XL - Russia's first chameleon smartphone

The line between smartphones and tablets is getting smaller: two years ago we couldn’t imagine a convenient phone with a screen larger than 4 inches and less than 7, and now five-inch phones are decisively advancing, crowding out both tiny and enormous competitors. This army also has Highscreen Omega Prime XL, whose name (remember “Transformers”?) Obliges you to go forward and, if you do not win, then fight worthy. As a secret weapon, the new smartphone has an interesting feature: immediately three interchangeable rear panels of different colors come with the device.

    Big or just right?

Honestly, I do not like convergence too much when one gadget replaces five at once. But living with Omega Prime XL in your pocket turned out to be very convenient, in contrast to the long-forgotten 5-inch HTC Advantage “remartphone” on Windows Mobile, released in 2007, which puzzled most representatives of the IT press and fans of the brand. That is, attempts to create a sort of “all in one” have been undertaken for a long time, but technologies and, most importantly, the wishes of users have ripened only now. Actually, the Highscreen in 2010 also had an “experiment” on this topic - Highscreen Hippo.
And even today, when discussing large smartphones, the argument “inconvenient to hold” often sounds. Some of those who have not seen such devices in their eyes even say that he will not fit in his hand. Nonsense! In the average female (and, of course, male) hand, the reader and even an 8-inch tablet can easily fit, and they are certainly wider than the Omega Prime XL (78 mm against 110-120 for the average e-book).
Another position: 5 or more inches is good, but a shovel near the ear is bad. All at once we recall a joke about a girl who talked all the summer on Samsung Galaxy Note II and didn’t tan :))))) However, I dare say that home radio and especially wired phones are not at all tiny, this time. History moves in a spiral, and after minimization the reverse process has begun, these are two. The closer the microphone is to your mouth, the better the interlocutor hears you and worse - extraneous noises, these are three. And all these imaginary inconveniences are paid off by the display, on which it’s nice to even watch a movie - it's twenty-three.

    Design

A feature of this model is interchangeable panels in the kit. What the Bolsheviks have been talking about for so long ... that is, users have partially accomplished: black and dark gray have been replaced by white and bright yellow.

And this immediately made the seemingly male huge smartphone closer to the fair sex. You can change the color of the back cover at least every day. Girls, of course, are comfortable. I made a French manicure - I took a smartphone with a white panel (glossy, the rest are matte). But it’s not so easy to unscrew the lid, so there’s a risk of ruining your manicure ...

I bought a solar bag and a lacquer in tone — I put on a yellow one.

I put on a little black dress - the smartphone went perfectly alongside.

    A little bit beautiful ... ;-)

It remains to repaint the front panel as well - and it will be very good. Only the guarantee is likely to disappear, but beauty requires sacrifice :) The

charger and headphones are white in color, ideally fit the white cover. True, the sound quality in the headphones will not satisfy the discerning audience, so there is a reason to buy black ones. Well, or yellow, for greater harmony.

In his hand, in spite of the theorists of the theorists, he lies well, does not jump out and does not creak when you squeeze. This seems strange given the interchangeable panels, but speaks well of the build quality.

There are few control elements on the case, and this is another fashion trend.
On the left is the volume control button.

On the right is the power button and unlock the phone

Headphones and recharging sockets are located on the upper end.

    On the lower void ...

The buttons "Menu", "Home" and "Back", according to the tradition of the Highscreen brand, are placed under the display, so that you have at your full disposal all 5.3 inches, 960 x 540 pixels. Resolution, of course, is not the highest modern and slightly upsets. But the test on my three friends showed that "you know less - you sleep better." They would not have noticed that the HD-movie does not look perfect, if I had not said that the resolution is slightly lower than 1280 by 720 pixels. Moreover, comparing this smartphone with one of its competitors, which has 1280 x 720 (and the price is 5,000 rubles higher), two of the three respondents did not notice the difference in pixel density at all, although it does exist. In general, “not geeks” can’t understand :) In general, the display is good in viewing angles, although it is inverted a little vertically and in color reproduction. Such a screen, of course, is somewhat cheaper than ultra-modern,

    What can

The technical equipment of the smartphone is quite modest: a four-core processor (from the American company Qualcomm, a world market leader), a frequency of 1.2 GHz, a gigabyte of RAM - all this we already went through last year. But technologists who need everything at once don’t even look into the budget segment, and for ordinary tasks these megahertz and megabytes are more than enough. The smartphone is pulling HD movies (though it's not entirely clear why they should be watched on a standard-resolution screen - unless connecting a large screen to a smartphone), most games, but there is nothing to say about office documents, schedulers and multitasking in general. The test instance turned out to be very functional, did not turn off and did not refuse to install applications from Google Play.

AnTuTu performance test put the smartphone at 11,048 points, and it even beat a competitor with a more powerful processor (it turned out to be better only in screen resolution).

In addition, not the coolest processor has a plus: it does not require so much energy. Therefore, a smartphone with a 2,800 mAh battery lived with me for three days without recharging, which is about an hour of active Internet (Wi-Fi generally turned off only at night), a dozen calls and photos, half an hour of games or videos a day. Yes, if you do not get out of it from morning to evening, then you will have to go to the outlet every day, but with normal use, to which most smartphones are exposed, it lives much longer than average.

By the way, in Highscreen Omega Prime XL, according to the Heiskrin tradition, two SIM card slots, so it will be convenient to optimize communication costs or use two numbers when roaming. Still, the battery would not get out when installing a SIM card or microSD card - it would be very good.

Another facet of using a smartphone is the camera. For me, the camera is one of the most important criteria by which I choose a smartphone, so it is important for me that the quality is straight “wow!” But here, unfortunately, there is none. Yes, Omega Prime XL is equipped with an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus, and for its price category it shoots quite well (and if it didn’t work out very well, you can play with the settings). But it’s for the price that she can be forgiven

Here are examples of shooting in the house - a box with and without flash, a cat without a flash.

An example of shooting outdoors in bright sunshine and standard settings: The

front-facing 2 megapixel camera is perfect for Skype and the now-fashionable self-portraits in the elevator, bathroom and on the beach.

    Output

For a large diagonal, it is customary to ask for more money today, but Highscreen played in the opposite direction: I saved a little here and there, and released such a smartphone for 10,990 rubles. Adherents of the idea of “not overpaying for excess» now also have something to look at. Omega Prime XL is not without flaws, but how serious they are - everyone decides for himself. I personally did not particularly like the quality of the camera and the not-so-easy removal of the back panel. Someone may not like the screen and not quite new TTX. However, the 2,800 mAh battery allows the smartphone to live longer than a day, and the three removable panels that Highscreen put in the box with the smartphone for free are generally a unique phenomenon in Russia. The same Nokia, LG and Motorola sell additional backs for extra money.
