How do we read books

    image

In the beginning was the word

Copywriters want money, but they sell access restrictions. That is, their entire business model is described in these three words - access money .

Here, by the way, there is a typical substitution of concepts - they want money and fight for access. Because whoever dines with the girl dances her. You lose in the monopoly of access - you lose (due to zero copying) and money.

What is the alternative? Alas, the bulk of the proposals comes down to finding out who will pay for us for access. As this regrettable fact reached me, I decided to put forward my crazy idea to the court of the habrasociety. Despite the fact that I have nothing to do with copyrights.

    And what to do?

I'll start right off the bat. Donates and to . Why pay more?

For the same reason, the horror stories “authors stop writing books” do not work. Why? Yes, because professional literature and textbooks will not go anywhere, as a matter of prime necessity (they will not stop learning and working). There are quite a few local publishers, and publishers a la safari books, oreyles and others are needed here and perform a lot of useful functions. At least - provide the minimum quality of educational literature.

But detectives and other fantasies are entertainment , that is, entertaining. There will be no Perumov — let’s start reading Exler, there will be no less graphomaniacs, will he? This segment (according to many - excessively inflated with circulations “below the baseboard”) is in danger. It is here that the epic battle of the dough goes on with the evil of copywriters and consumers.

Pay for fun voluntarily? Are you crazy? If there will be at least 1% of such conscious ones, this will be the complete victory of the new world over the mossy bureaucrats who do not see the difference between a record and a file on the Internet. Let me refer to Lukyanenko’s experiments - very revealingly.

    And what is being proposed?

    Yes, something terrible.

Authors have nothing to eat? Let them lay out books online and set themselves up for the guards ! Yeah, yeah - and with these cents they pay the corrector, editor and artist.

And let’s pay for what I read books - the provider pays! Or we will introduce such a tax. What is already there, let's immediately calculate from pensions. Are old women reading books? Look! And when the well-known Migalkov goes this way - we get a sea of indignation and other bouts.

Or so. Let's get a ruble from everyone! Therefore, one will download and watch cool pictures 24 hours a day (whose loafer is fed by parents), and hard workers will stand at the machine tool and read a newspaper before going to bed for their happiness. But everything is on hand.

Well, or a classic - then I'll pay. Someday. I’ll read three more books in the series - and then I’ll list 100 rubles. And it does not matter that the entertainment service already provided is worth little.

    There is no hope?

There is a very important point that few people pay attention to. Namely, the consumer tomorrow will agree to what he will not agree “never, never” today. The question is price - what will the consumer get from this. Today we perceive with hostility “books only online” or “reader with DRM”.

    Why?

Yes, because not only is it less convenient to read in these “means” than to (substitute your favorite reader), these inconveniences are not in themselves, and the fee for restricting our rights is comfortable to read (not just read, this is an important nuance).

That is - to make copywriting easier, we as consumers get hemorrhoids with our own money. Here in the dvd-shka from the pirates are stupidly cut off stupid inscriptions in red on black, which still can not be squandered (classic).

The same situation with books. No search, a bunch of restrictions, even copying a picture is a victory. And when, in the guise of books, they actually sell linearized PDFs (that is, a set of pictures) ... And this is for the money? Are you kidding me?

Although modern approaches to books can simply be amazing.

Here are a couple of examples from a social field that requires reading online.

    • collective reading (subtraction, correction, commenting)
    • detailed annotation simultaneously by a group of readers
    • book exchange and rental
    • access to series and discounts, gifts, exchanges
    • automatic search and joining those who also read this book

But - you can’t read a book offline completely (in a new way) . But technological examples that an electronic blockhead can provide itself (with the Internet)

    • will provide a selection of books on similar subjects
    • annotates the book itself by making links to Wikipedia with dbpedia
    • he will compile a list of key concepts and navigate them
    • interactive annotation and comment navigation
    • interactive book series navigation, auto-reference and auto-link
    • automatically built advanced navigation between chapters, sections, callouts, etc.
    • - build a preview of the books - you can even get acquainted without going into the reader, right in the browser
    • for educational literature - a bunch of additional bonuses, ranging from auto-questionnaires on read a la USE, and ending with a personal “mentat”, which will build a whole training course individually for the reader.

But - you can’t read a book offline completely (in a new way) . In this regard, the opinion of the habrasociety is interesting, otherwise I suddenly smoked something bad.
