MakerBot introduced a 3D desktop scanner

On Habré mentions of the MakerBot company appear quite often. Mostly in connection with the 3D printers that this company produces. For example, one of the models, Replicator is even called the most advanced desktop 3D printer. Now the company has announced a new device, also desktop. Only this is no longer a printer, but a scanner, and it really has very small sizes.

The scanner received a logical name - Digitizer. The full name of the model is MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner. This is a really interesting device that can quickly get a three-dimensional model of an object so that this model can be played on the same Replicator printer. So far, the scanner is a preliminary, test version, and additions and changes to its design are still possible. Nevertheless, the device is quite functional, more than.

According to the developers, the scanner receives a three-dimensional model of the scanned object through two laser beams and a webcam. It is clear that the object that the new scanner is able to handle must be of certain sizes. Of course, you can plan to scan the car body in order to print it later, but this task is not for Digitizer.

In general, 3D scanners are not so small now, but Digitizer is one of the first desktop models that are really capable of performing the stated tasks. By the way, the device (or rather, its software) translates the information received as a result of the scan into CAD files. Unfortunately, there is still no high-quality video demonstrating the operation of the device.

There is not a very high-quality video from the presentation, where the speaker talks in detail about the principles of the device. The presentation is short and clear.
