App Annie: analysis of the Russian mobile market
The analytical company App Annie has published statistics on the Russian mobile market. It contains data on the growth in the number of downloads and revenue from the App Store and Google Play in Russia and a comparison of these indicators with other countries of the world.
Today, the Russian mobile market is one of the most dynamic in the world. This is confirmed by a recent Distimo report and recent analytics from App Annie.
For the period under review (from January to September 2012), the number of downloads in the Russian Google Play increased by 66%. The growth rate of the number of downloads from the Russian App Store has an indicator 2 times less - 31%. At the same time, of the two platforms on Google Play already accounts for two-thirds of the total number of downloads.
In terms of revenue dynamics, Google Play also bypasses the App Store - 179% versus 42%, but in terms of money this is still negligible compared to how much the "apple" side brings.
If you look at the entire global mobile market as a whole, then Russia in the App Store accounts for only 2% of the total number of downloads and the same amount of total revenue. For comparison, the US share of profits is 35%, Europe is 24%, the Pacific region accounts for 27%, and the rest of the world - 12%.
As for Google Play, here Russia has the same 2% of global revenue, but already with a share of downloads of 4%. Almost all of the main profit is distributed between US markets (32% share) and the Pacific region (almost half - 46%), while Europe accounts for 15%, and all other countries in the world - only 5% of revenue.
With these growth rates for mobile app stores, Russia was able to enter the top 10 in terms of both downloads and revenue.
Moreover, in terms of revenue growth with iOS, our country is already in fifth place. Only Brazil, Japan, Thailand and Sweden have higher rates.
As for the growth rate of income from Google Play, Russia is not in the top 10 here. In the first place - South Korea, then - Japan and South Africa.
