The free city Wi-Fi network has more than 15 thousand points. Contractors for the installation and provision of communications used to be different companies: Prestige Internet (part of Er-Telecom Holding), Akado, MGTS and Vimpelcom.

The city network is represented in different districts of Moscow: within the Garden Ring, in places of mass gathering of citizens within the Third Transport Ring, metropolitan parks, libraries, cultural centers, museums, a network of cinemas MosKino and university dormitories. Network characteristics from the official site:

  • total channel capacity of the network allows up to 55 thousand users to access the Internet simultaneously;

  • speed per user - at least 1 Mbit / s;
  • video in high quality;
  • each access point provides a connection within a radius of up to 50 meters;
  • up to 50 devices can be simultaneously connected to one point;
  • the duration of one session is not limited.

A single operator can potentially expand and integrate the existing network to 25 thousand access points. They will be taken away from the current operators and given to the new. Under the terms of the contract, work must be completed in the first half of 2020.

Maxima Telecom will unite all Moscow public Wi-Fi networks on its MT_FREE platform, and the total number of access points in its network will be more than 40 thousand.
