HP webOS officially went to Open Source. HP plans to continue the development of the system. webOS ported to Galaxy Nexus

The mobile operating system based on the Linux kernel, HP webOS, was officially reborn today in Open webOS. The long cycle of code preparation ended today with the release of the source code for a stable version of the system. Enthusiasts and manufacturers all over the world got 75 system components with a length of more than 450 thousand lines of code for free access. Despite the mass of problems of the mobile division of Hewlett-Packard, they were able to complete the release of source codes, which can be found in turnips on GitHub .

Compared to the Beta version released in late August, it was added:
    • Support for the new version of the Enyo JavaScript framework (Enyo2)
    • Including the Mail, Calendar and Contacts application code , as well as updating the browser
    • Bugs fixed and optimizations carried out

Many feared that the WebOS project, after opening the source code, would be thrown into the dustbin of history by HP, and developed the Phoenix project to continue development. But these concerns are dispelled by Hewlett-Packard engineers. In their ToDo list:
    • Migrating to Qt5 and WebKit2
    • Release sources of updated audio / media components
    • Implement the BlueZ Stack
    • Finish ConnMan Connection Manager
    • Optimize Luna Architecture

Developers are encouraged to join the discussion of future innovations and fixes on the Open webOS forum .
In addition, the guys from HP made a short video in which they remind of the key features of the system:

In addition, HP has already made the system port to the reference Google smartphone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus. While there is no firmware itself, but it will probably appear on xda-developers or rootz-wiki in the coming days.
