Online Algorithms: Design and Analysis, Part I Training Course

I graduated from the online course Algorithms: Design and Analysis, Part I on coursera.org.

If I say that I’m completely dumb, that’s not to say anything. Moreover, in mortality I’m not so much from the material. He is at his best, but this is difficult to surprise. And I am delighted with the format of the training itself, the quality of the preparation of materials and the online technology of conducting.

    In short.

The course lasts six weeks. About one and a half hours of video lectures are given for each week, divided into episodes of 10-20 minutes. The video is interactive, and in some there are times when it stops, and questions are offered to consolidate the listening. For each lecture, there are two corresponding PDFs with slides: one with handwritten inscriptions, which gradually appear along with the lecturer's explanations during the video lecture, and the second with text in usual fonts. You can watch the video as many times as you like. It is possible directly in the browser, but you can download video files (though here I am not sure if the interactive questions will work). There are English subtitles and a transcript. And the video that you watch in the browser has a mega opportunity to change the viewing speed in the range from 0.5 to 1.5. When a lot of “blah blah” begins, you can speed it up for a while.

Also, a list of theoretical questions and a practical task is given for each week. Questions must be answered, and for practice, write a program and submit what is required. There are limits on the number of attempted change. The best given answer is taken into account.

There are really no restrictions on the time of delivery, but answers and decisions made late (after a week) will be evaluated with a 50% “discount”, so if you want to get a certificate at the end, it’s best to do everything on time.

At the end - the last test exam. It has a time limit of 3 hours. Therefore, you should choose the time so that everything can be completed.

There are forums where, along with students, course leaders appear.

My personal subjective opinion is that it would be possible to make the course a little “tougher”, but in general, the load balance for the optional evening time spending a couple of times a week is wonderful.

Conclusion : I advise everyone. Of course, not this particular course (everyone has different interests), but the technology as a whole.

I want to try the following 6.002x: Circuits and Electronics . I wonder what and how they will replace online practical exercises, without which electronics is impossible.
