Electronic document management on the radio
At the regional radio station, where I work as a broadcaster, and at the same time as a software engineer, they decided to get away from an endless pile of papers between departments: sales, news, production. It will be mainly about interaction in the main mode of receiving money from air for radio - advertising.
The first step was the introduction of the free Sharepoint Services 2010. Here, a lot of people decided not to suffer. We created a workflow for approving the application of an advertising agent for a commercial by a lawyer and director. After approval, notifications are sent to the sound engineer about the production task and then to the traffic manager for placement in ad units. Opened separate mailboxes on GMail, set GNotifier to receive notifications.
Here is a corporate portal with company news and tasks for departments.
Applications go in a "ball", all is well. But the paper remained: the sound engineer had to print the text for the announcer from the application. News also brings texts on paper. To set up a complex like the “ News Factory ” seemed too cumbersome, so we decided to do this:
Set up Wi-fi, Android 2.3, as they understand it, does not support proxies, so no Dropbox or GDocs. From here - samba on one of the servers, documents are opened through the program ES Explorer. Here, in the LAN menu, the server address and the " Documents to go " package are added to bookmarks , which understands all the necessary office formats. Judging by the reviews on GPlay, it’s not a very program, but we only need to open the file for reading, no more is needed.
Now the scheme is as follows.
Advertising : the text of the application from the sound engineer’s mail is copied (with pens) to the “Advertising” file on the server. The announcer opens it on the tablet and reads the text.
news: News file is open for news all day. After dialing the next issue and saving it, the announcer receives a weighty “ready!” Message in IM, opens it on the tablet, reads the text. It should be borne in mind that Documents to go copies a file to its disk, and does not open it over the network. Periodically, it is necessary to clean the local memory from downloaded copies.
Newsmen also have daily backups of files with releases for the archive configured. I liked the solution from cobiansoft.com
What is the result? .
The advantages are clear - they got rid of the paper completely in this task.
Of the minuses of this design:
The logical comment is “what did you want from the tablet for $ 100?”, But there was no experience, you have to learn from your own mistakes.

- We ordered a tablet from the Chinese for $ 100 a la ipad
- There was a Wi-fi TP-link router
- Bought a stand for the tablet. It seems to be light, but it’s inconvenient to hold in your hands when filling

Of the minuses of this design:
- The quality of the tablet. It is terrible. The screen is not clear enough, the eyes are somewhat rippled with the general not too bright lighting of the recording studio, as a result, the eyes get tired, you can stray when filling up. The battery runs out very quickly, you need to keep it online almost all the time. One full charge is enough for one full day of work - 8-10 starts for 5-7 minutes at a time.
- Wi-fi strangely disappears, you have to reconnect, sometimes faster print. It is better to use ethernet if possible.
- A month after use, it suddenly stopped charging, the power plug staggered.
