Waymo ahead of the rest: robomobili companies skated 11 million kilometers

The other day, Waymo, an autonomous unit of Alphabet holding, announced that its ro-mobiles had traveled more than 11 million kilometers under public roads. This is more than any other Waymo competitor. This event was reported by Sean Stewart, the company's top manager at the Innofest Unbound conference in Singapore.
Just a month ago, Waymo reported on its previous record - then robomobils rolled about 9 million kilometers on the roads, as reported at the Google I / O conference on May 8.
However, when the previous record was set , the company did not report, so this does not mean that over the past month cars have traveled two million kilometers more. Nevertheless, the progress is very noticeable, which can not fail to please fans of the robotization of machines.

The graph, which the company showed in February of this year, shows that in order to increase mileage from 2 million to 4 million kilometers, the company needed about a year. Then - six months, to travel an additional 2 million kilometers, then - 3 months to get the same result. Well, now 4 million kilometers have been “eaten” by the wheels of the robots in just 3.5 months. As far as can be judged, the trips are gradually becoming more frequent, and the number of robots is increasing.
None of the companies developing robomobili and next to it did not stand with the result shown by Waymo. Uber managed to achieve a result of 6.5 million kilometers, GM Cruise did not reach 500 thousand kilometers.
Actually, the distance, which overcame robomobili, is not at all an indicator of the safety of such vehicles. Autonomous car accidents have happened, happen and are likely to happen. But at the same time, it can be noted that they occur very infrequently, so it will be appropriate here to recall the statement of Ilona Mask, who said that robomobils will help humanity reduce the number of accidents by 2 times. True, subject to the expansion of the park robomobily.

In the meantime, Waymo does not stop at what has been accomplished and continues to demonstrate a desire to become No. 1 in the field of robo mobiles. So, in March, the company purchased 20 thousand Jaguar I-PACE. Now buy another 62 thousand. Chrysler Pacifica. Not so long ago, the company Uber purchased more than 20 thousand cars from Volvo, but, unfortunately, after a recent accident involving the company’s robobiles, the tests are suspended indefinitely. Waymo continues the tests.
At the end of the year, the company hopes to launch a roboticax service in the school. Waymo promises that the service will work by the end of this year.
