GTUG and Russia with the support of Google invite to hackathons on Google Chrome and a contest with prizes

What is Chrome Hackathons & Contest?
This is a competition between developers who want to create the best extensions in the world for Google Chrome and Chrome Web Apps. The main hackathons will be held on August 27 and 28, on weekends, with keynote speakers from Google: Ilmari Heikkinen (Developer Programs Engineer) in Moscow and Mike West (Chrome Advocate) in St. Petersburg. Hackathons will also be held on the same days in Ufa, Voronezh and Omsk.

    The purpose of the competition?
The goal is to make our favorite Google Chrome browser more convenient for us and for users by creating excellent web applications and extensions based on requests and wishes collected from Chrome users .

Expansion:the extension should not repeat the existing ones (but may be an improvement of existing extensions). You can rely on the extensions proposed by users , but these extensions, nevertheless, should fall under the categories of Browser Actions or Page Actions ; in this technical competition, we don’t take into account extensions like Themes or Override Pages . Extensions are evaluated by solving real user problems and technical implementation.

Application: the application should ideally not repeat the existing ones. Applications are evaluated by solving real user problems and technical implementation.

When will the hackathons and the competition take place?
Hackathons and the competition itself will be organized in 4 stages:
    1. Chrome Hackathons - August 27-28: A 2-day event in 5 cities.
    2. Chrome Contest - August 29 - October 8: An online contest held over the course of a month, developers are completing their applications and extensions and are preparing for the final.
    3. Final - DemoFest - October 9: The event takes place in the Moscow office of Google.
    4. Presentation and awarding of winners at GDD 2011 - October 10: The event takes place at GDD 2011 Russia .

    Winners
Three winners receive Mac Book Air laptops, which will be presented during the award ceremony at Google Developer Day 2011 Russia . Additional 4th and 5th places will be awarded with valuable prizes.
