Automakers also began to build their own data centers

General Motors allocated $ 130 million for the construction of a corporate data center - almost the same as that of the largest computer companies Google, IBM, Microsoft and others (only a little smaller). Previously, new car projects were drawn in pencil on drawings, redoing them many times, but the modern process of developing new models is impossible without computer design. Therefore, it is very important for engineers to have a modern IT infrastructure and sufficient computing power.

The management of General Motors calculated and decided that it would be more profitable to combine servers in one data center than to work with disparate computers that now stand in each department. This is an increase in power and energy savings.

The construction of a new GM data center near the head office of the company's technical department in Michigan will be completed in 2015.
