How to study correctly?
I decided to touch upon the monumental topic of self-development and pack it into a short article. I understand that on several pages it will not be possible to fully cover the topic, but I will try to give some impetus to productive thoughts in the right direction.
To do this, I will look at how to understand what to learn at all, and how to find the most effective and suitable ways of learning?
It just so happens that we are constantly evolving. In one day, you can read a book about the Russo-Japanese war, try out a new pasta recipe and practice using smarty templates. But no matter how vast our development opportunities are, they will never be limitless. It’s like in a store: you go to the supermarket with a limited amount of cash. You can afford various products in various combinations, but you cannot buy the whole store.
The same thing with knowledge. You will never know everything! Therefore, your development plan must be carefully thought out.
Let's try the proof of the opposite. Remember what happened at the institute on unloved subjects (I had an engineering schedule):
- these subjects are "given" worse than others
- you have to look for some artificial substitutes for natural motivation
- training is always postponed to the last moment, most often - to sleepless session nights
Yes, and it is unlikely that you will want to devote life to unpleasant activities, so this knowledge will simply not be useful to you.
What is the conclusion? Run away from knowledge, the receipt of which does not give you pleasure. Look for those that, on the contrary, bring joy.
The applicability of knowledge may vary. Something can be applied at work, something at home, something in your favorite hobby. But what happens to knowledge that does not find application?
They "gather dust", bringing neither joy nor benefit. And gradually, like everything that we do not use regularly, they are forgotten.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with that. Just remember that your resource is limited? Are you ready to give up other, useful and pleasant knowledge, for the sake of dust?
The question sounds strange, right? Of course, we are learning for ourselves!
...
exactly?
Higher education we often do not choose ourselves. Sometimes we don’t need it. Sometimes we want something else. But many do not want to conflict with their parents, and go on about it.
What does this lead to? Who is the winner? Parents who made the child miserable? Unlikely.
Look for yourself, do not go about it!
Many companies implement the practice of creating a corporate development plan for their employees. This is a noble activity, for which they need to shake hands, say “thank you” and generally thank them in every possible way, but ... Sometimes this process is not done in the best way for an employee. Management is interested in the efficient use of resources by the company, and not in your benefit as an employee.
Most often, it is beneficial for the company that employees work for a long time in one position, achieving maximum efficiency in performing the same tasks. If you want it too - Wellcome.
But if you want growth, then you need to develop and gain knowledge for the expected position, and not to improve skills in the current one .
Recently, at work, a colleague unfoundedly noted my low qualifications on one issue that was not related to my field of activity. My first reaction was: damn it! It is urgent to find out! I also felt awkward at a tire fitting recently: how is it that I don’t know what the wrong drive out for is!
The first reaction in such situations is to find out! To be no worse, know no less ... But a “reaction” is not a choice! To study something in order to “prove” to someone is frivolous and pointless.
Do you really need it?
Training can be theoretical and practical, emotional and analytical, and the interface can be books, coaches, trainings ...
Let's say there is a goal: “I want to learn C ++ in 21 days” :) This is interesting (like) and useful (fits into our career height).
What to do next? How to study?
I can’t even imagine how you can study the Russian-Japanese war in practice, but C ++ theory is not subject to it, that's for sure.
You can read a book, articles, but what will it give? To effectively acquire skills, you need to set yourself a specific task, the solution of which will be compatible with getting a new skill.
For example, now it is full of books and articles about management. So what? Most people read, analyze, and ... and that's it! What's the point?
You should see how I made a map of my mom’s motivators and how I conducted situational interviews with friends! The result is experience, skill, but not useless and irrevocably forgotten knowledge!
According to the theory, people are divided into those who learn through emotions, and those who learn through analysis of information. The first is the “charge", the impetus for action and cognition in practice. The second is important a deep amount of information for analysis, a kind of stack, after filling in which a person becomes ready for new actions.
If you look closely, then the authors of books leading trainings are also divided into these categories. Someone charges more, and someone overflows with information. “Emotional” students die of boredom over books full of theory and in lectures overloaded with information. And the “analyzers” consider the generalized statements of the “emotional” trainers and authors of books to be empty talk.
Choose the right teachers, trainers, books. From their descriptions, it is usually very easy to understand what type the author belongs to.
Well, you read an interesting article, a cool book or attended a training you liked. In the reviews you wrote “wow, thanks, it was super!”. What's next? What exactly is super?
If nothing, then the money and time spent were thrown to the wind. Make a list of specific actions that you will take in the next 7 days to consolidate the information received.
“Forcing” oneself to do something is the worst sin. If this happens, then the new information is uninteresting, useless, or you need it not for you . About all this - see above :)
Is it really interesting? Honestly honestly interesting?
Cool, do not worry and take a buzz from a life full of discoveries :)
If in a nutshell - then yes, be sure. Our world does not stand still, it moves, spins, develops. But you can’t force yourself, yeah. What to do? Search what's interesting! What you like, what fascinates, what motivates. Happy are those who find it. And by the way, judging by my observations, there have been a lot of such people lately :)
It depends on global goals, depending on the context in which to talk about "benefits". Everything is relatively simple with a career, thanks to the creators of job search sites! In vacancies, you can always track the correlations between skills and wages.
Want to move live in Europe? It’s clear which languages will come in handy. Well and further down the list :) "Benefit" is not absolute - it depends on specific life goals.
And the most important question:
NEVER choose between benefit and pleasure. To study the structure of a paraglider for a paraglider is just as useful as to master a new accounting program for an accountant. Our life is for pleasure, and no matter what you do, you will always find something that gives pleasure.
If you choose between benefit and pleasure, then something is wrong somewhere!
To do this, I will look at how to understand what to learn at all, and how to find the most effective and suitable ways of learning?
1. What to learn?
It just so happens that we are constantly evolving. In one day, you can read a book about the Russo-Japanese war, try out a new pasta recipe and practice using smarty templates. But no matter how vast our development opportunities are, they will never be limitless. It’s like in a store: you go to the supermarket with a limited amount of cash. You can afford various products in various combinations, but you cannot buy the whole store.
The same thing with knowledge. You will never know everything! Therefore, your development plan must be carefully thought out.
1.1 To study only what is interesting
Let's try the proof of the opposite. Remember what happened at the institute on unloved subjects (I had an engineering schedule):
- these subjects are "given" worse than others
- you have to look for some artificial substitutes for natural motivation
- training is always postponed to the last moment, most often - to sleepless session nights
Yes, and it is unlikely that you will want to devote life to unpleasant activities, so this knowledge will simply not be useful to you.
What is the conclusion? Run away from knowledge, the receipt of which does not give you pleasure. Look for those that, on the contrary, bring joy.
1.2 Learn only what you can apply
The applicability of knowledge may vary. Something can be applied at work, something at home, something in your favorite hobby. But what happens to knowledge that does not find application?
They "gather dust", bringing neither joy nor benefit. And gradually, like everything that we do not use regularly, they are forgotten.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with that. Just remember that your resource is limited? Are you ready to give up other, useful and pleasant knowledge, for the sake of dust?
2. For whom to study?
The question sounds strange, right? Of course, we are learning for ourselves!
...
exactly?
2.1 "Parents said ..."
2.2 Corporate Development Plan
2.3 To the argument!
3. How to study?
Training can be theoretical and practical, emotional and analytical, and the interface can be books, coaches, trainings ...
Let's say there is a goal: “I want to learn C ++ in 21 days” :) This is interesting (like) and useful (fits into our career height).
What to do next? How to study?
3.1 Choose practice instead of theory
3.2 Emotions or analysis?
According to the theory, people are divided into those who learn through emotions, and those who learn through analysis of information. The first is the “charge", the impetus for action and cognition in practice. The second is important a deep amount of information for analysis, a kind of stack, after filling in which a person becomes ready for new actions.
If you look closely, then the authors of books leading trainings are also divided into these categories. And the “analyzers” consider the generalized statements of the “emotional” trainers and authors of books to be empty talk.
Choose the right teachers, trainers, books. From their descriptions, it is usually very easy to understand what type the author belongs to.
3.3 “What will I do next week”
Well, you read an interesting article, a cool book or attended a training you liked. In the reviews you wrote “wow, thanks, it was super!”. What's next? What exactly is super?
If nothing, then the money and time spent were thrown to the wind. Make a list of specific actions that you will take in the next 7 days to consolidate the information received.
And finally - the analysis of complex cases
Я решил изучить ***, но не могу себя заставить. Что делать?
“Forcing” oneself to do something is the worst sin. If this happens, then the new information is uninteresting, useless, or you need it not for you . About all this - see above :)
А мне всё интересно! Что выбрать?
Is it really interesting? Honestly honestly interesting?
Cool, do not worry and take a buzz from a life full of discoveries :)
А мне ничего не интересно. Разве развиваться - обязательно?
If in a nutshell - then yes, be sure. Our world does not stand still, it moves, spins, develops. But you can’t force yourself, yeah. What to do? Search what's interesting! What you like, what fascinates, what motivates. Happy are those who find it. And by the way, judging by my observations, there have been a lot of such people lately :)
А как понять, что "полезно"?
It depends on global goals, depending on the context in which to talk about "benefits". Everything is relatively simple with a career, thanks to the creators of job search sites! In vacancies, you can always track the correlations between skills and wages.
Want to move live in Europe? It’s clear which languages will come in handy. Well and further down the list :) "Benefit" is not absolute - it depends on specific life goals.
And the most important question:
Что важнее - польза или удовольствие?
NEVER choose between benefit and pleasure. To study the structure of a paraglider for a paraglider is just as useful as to master a new accounting program for an accountant. Our life is for pleasure, and no matter what you do, you will always find something that gives pleasure.
If you choose between benefit and pleasure, then something is wrong somewhere!
