Pixar Demonstrates RenderMan Cloud Rendering Technology Rendering Service
Pixar, a well-known company creating beautiful animated films, has developed a cloud service for its Renderman technology . Cloud Renderman is a service that allows you to upload source materials for rendering to the cloud and get calculated results using Pixar technologies in a short time. All calculations are undertaken by the Renderman service. This offer is positioned as a starting point for small studios that cannot afford large render farms.
During the PDC10 conference, Chris Ford, the business director of Pixar Studios, demonstrated the work of the cloud service. He uploaded Maya 3D source materials to the cloud, selected the required capacities in his account and in a short time received a calculated result.

The service will allow you to flexibly choose capacities and calculate costs depending on the needs of users.
According to Chris Ford, RenderMan technology is widely used in modern industry. Every CG cartoon since the release of Toy Story in 1995 was rendered using RenderMan.
Pixar has chosen Windows Azure as its foundation for its service. At the moment, the cloud version of RenderMan is not yet available to the mass consumer; the demonstration was proof-of – concept. However, Pixar plans to launch a cloud-based RenderMan in the near future.
