IDF: Russian netbooks and new atoms
Atom mobile processors and mobile devices have become one of the main topics of the ongoing Intel Developer Forum.
First, Intel is launching its new Atom processor series. The E600 series , better known as Tunnel Creek and announced at the winter IDF earlier this year, is an on-chip system designed for cars, network devices, Internet telephony and so on. A new Atom processor, code-named Stellartron, will be built on the basis of the E600 . Stellartron is a system composed of the Atom E600 and CPLDs(set of programmable logic) Altera - Atom in this bundle is a universal heart, and PPVM can be used for digital signal processing, telecommunications and any other reprogrammable devices.
Secondly, the Atom processors of the CE4200 series , formerly known as Groveland, appear - they are designed for television and home entertainment centers. This is also a system on a chip that supports 3D graphics and (attention!) H.264 encoding of high-definition video streams - all this with minimal power consumption. Not surprisingly, Samsung and several other companies have announced plans to release a set-top box based on the CE4200.
The German WeTab is the first tablet running on the MeeGo OS.
Thirdly, the first prototypes of systems based on Atom processors running under the MeeGo operating system, such as WeTab , are beginning to appear . It is especially pleasant that at the presentation, Rene James , head of the Software and Solutions Group at Intel, demonstrated working examples of “Russian netbooks and nettops” (see her presentation at about 23:40).
Just before IDF, colleagues from Intel's Moscow office helped us hold these devices in our hands and photograph them. Here they are:
Netbook DNS based on Intel N450 with HDMI, RAM up to 2 GB and optional 3G modem.
Nettops 3Q NTPon Atom - 2-4 GB of RAM, 640 GB of disk space, black and white body, 4 USB-ports, the older model has a HDMI-connector and the possibility of WiMAX-module installation:
Nettop IRU 113 with an optional remote control:
Netbook Clevo M1100Q based on Atom N450 and N470 with optional 3.75G modem:
In Russia, these devices will appear in the 4th quarter of this year - very soon. The local version of MeeGo will be handled by Linux Center .
