Universal "machine" ASUS N53Jn
A long time ago I did not write about laptops, a long time ago ... and decided - if you continue, then only with a new and decent model. Therefore, meet.

Laptop ASUS N53Jn is the fourth generation in a series of N - all notebooks in this series are designed for fans of multimedia entertainment. This time, the well-known company Bang & Olufsen decided to make its contribution to a good cause , which worked hard on the laptop audio system. Sonic Master Technology Comes Together With ASUS Golden Ear, which has been discussed more than once. But in a nutshell - all this is a hardware-software complex (speakers and resonators of increased sizes, a special design, a powerful amplifier and an advanced codec), which as a result demonstrates a really chic sound for laptops, comparable to good desktop speakers.
All notebooks of the N / NX series have a fairly productive filling on board, so for some reason they can be considered as DTR-systems (Desktop Replacement). Therefore, I will tell, I will show what is there and how)
It all starts with an all-metal cover with fine polishing - these were found in some models of this series and U / UX / UL series. Until now, it looks very cool - the neat silver-colored metal with black plastic looks just amazing. The dimensions of the device are the most common (39x26.6x2.9-3.9cm, with a weight of 2.71kg with a battery), but overall it seems very compact.

In many other aspects, the appearance is quite typical. I will not list the connectors - everything is in the photo. However, you can not help but mention the USB (3.0) connector and another USB port, combined with eSATA - convenient. And, of course, the Wi-Fi hardware switch.

On the reverse side, nothing interesting - a few rubber legs and one small lid for access to RAM

The diagonal of the screen is considerable 15.6 inches (it is with LED backlight) and the resolution may vary (check in the store when buying!) - either 1366 × 768, or adults 1920 × 1080. The screen is good in terms of colors and good in terms of viewing angles, but here is a glossy finish ... more precisely, dust and prints on it that will certainly appear ... well, you understand.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/24d/3e9/360/24d3e936044b3842c71266ae14204fc8.jpg)
To display images on a large screen, there is both VGA (D-SUB) and HDMI, and the "ancient" port is displayed on the back side, which is why it is not distracting in everyday life. You can choose from either a DVD writer or a combination Blu-ray.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/36d/d4e/72f/36dd4e72fac9d9c387e36695267c35bd.jpg)
This time I was surprised by a 2-megapixel camera - it had such a pleasant trifle as a curtain (with a pseudo-aperture diaphragm). Those. if desired, the image from the camera can be “hidden” (just hide, because closing the curtain does not turn off the camera). A nice little thing that does not overload the appearance of the device as a whole.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/de8/9a8/2e1/de89a82e15a406821ee2c9d409b7e64c.jpg)
The keyboard is very comfortable - divided keys ("island type") with a pleasant to the touch texture. Convenient layout (large Enter, Backspace and two Shift-a) with a digital block - despite the fact that in the test version there was no Cyrillic alphabet on the buttons, typing was very convenient.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/129/607/e77/129607e779913ceffbf3b69461d36835.jpg)
Presses are very quiet - if you wish, you can easily “accelerate” on such a keyboard. It is a pity that there is no backlight - in such an expensive model it would be very useful ... however, this misunderstanding somewhat compensates for the damn nice material on the sides of the keyboard.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/06d/01a/b7d/06d01ab7d58d78d0066a956a41318126.jpg)
A little higher are the multimedia buttons and a few bizarre indicators - they are part of the decor surrounding the buttons ... but at the same time they don't look disgusting - they are unobtrusive, dim.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/a29/904/17d/a2990417dab30c65c9d2628cd19a8a45.jpg)
And even higher is the metal grid, behind which are the stereo speakers - I wrote about their sound below. And from the obvious - over time, the mesh will become clogged with dust, which is at least not very beautiful aesthetically.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/dbf/ad7/a5b/dbfad7a5ba8f166e5f0bb6475fe25136.jpg)
For those who like to fiddle with a finger, ASUS engineers integrated the Elantech multi-touch touchpad into the N53Jn. The surface itself is not new - a similar one has already been found in a number of models and has proven itself well. The button under the panel is quite voiced, but the click itself is very nice tactile. If not for the easily soiled chrome button, it would be really cool.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/553/9fa/a7b/5539faa7b7b1763674bee9f9eab608d9.jpg)
The entire space around the touchpad is made of brushed aluminum - it looks very neat and to some extent even expensive. Below are a few status LEDs.
Like any other laptop from ASUS, this can be included in two ways - in the Windows operating system or in the ASUS ExpressGate system ( review ). The latter is a heavily stripped down Linux distribution written to a hidden partition on disk. The main advantage of this system is the fast download speed (only 7 seconds), but at the same time it is quite working. This time, a modern version of ExpressGate was installed, in which they updated the interface, added settings and all kinds of applications there. But still the most needed ones remained - Firefox, Skype, IM-client (ICQ, Gmail and other protocols), multimedia players and file manager. Pleasant bonus.

Pre-installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) is fully loaded in 25-30 seconds.
Inside installed a modern dual-coreProcessor Intel® Core ™ i5-540M with a frequency of 2.53GHz.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/56e/a05/5df/56ea055df1d6e4bf59f91b3e62a237ff.png)
In automatic mode, Intel® Turbo Boost Technology is capable of overclocking to 3.066 GHz.

The maximum amount of memory (DDR3) with which the processor can operate is 8GB - in this case, it is installed exactly half as much, 4GB. But it will be possible to buy a “top” version stuffed with RAM.
The laptop is equipped with two video cards. Intel® HD Graphics is integrated into the processor, which is enough to twist any high-resolution video; and nVidia GeForce GT 335M is a discrete graphics card with 1GB of GDDR3 memory, which is quite enoughfor most modern toys. The same video card, by the way, is installed in the acclaimed NX90 . In general ... there will be enough performance for a lot of tasks - from office fussing to movies and toys. In addition, the laptop can switch the video cards automatically, although the Optimus technology from nVidia allows you to configure this process manually for a separate application.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/889/8d3/3bc/8898d33bc409a0ac5212ec5ccd5d1187.png)
Apparently, for this reason, the thermal mode of the laptop does not exceed the norm. The system cooler creates a little noise that will not distract during operation.
The stereo speakers from Bang & Olufsen are really good - they easily voiced my balcony almost on equal footing with good desktop speakers. The sound is clean - ideal for movies, games and a lot of music, but listening to Pendulum is still better with headphones :) It would be great if such speakers were installed in all laptops ... but so far this is not possible due to the fact that for device certification At B&O, a laptop must meet a number of requirements, including the geometry of the model itself. So good sound is only in some models (multimedia series) - they are easy to recognize by the characteristic curves of the body in the area of the speakers.

As I said, the laptop supports Bluetooth 3.0. I did not have a single matching device for pairing, therefore, I tried only what was. In particular, a laptop with HTC HD2 communicator was steamed, from which music was played (the laptop was a “headset”) - the sound was without delays, but with tangible distortions. It is unlikely that someone will repeat this experience, but once in a lifetime it may come in handy) BT mice work like clockwork.
On a standard battery (the minimum capacity of those that will be available - 4400mAh, 48Wh) the laptop is able to work (at maximum brightness of the display and with the Wi-Fi module turned on) for only 1.5 hours.

Pros and cons
Neat and practical case with a stylish metal cover
High-quality assembly, nice case material and around the touchpad
4 USB ports (one 3.0, one combined with eSATA and 2 regular)
Comfortable and quiet keyboard, large touchpad
Modern productive filling
Glossy screen and frame around it
Small resolution, only 1366x768 There are versions from 1920x1080
The speaker grid will clog
Small battery life
Rather high price for top configurations
If until recently I had the UL50Vt model as one of my favorite laptops (one that is easy to get on the market) from ASUS, now everything seems to be changing. More recently, I (and apparently, not only me) literally fell in love with the bamboo model U53Jc . But suddenly, roughly on a par with him, was the hero of today's review - a stylish and powerful laptop. At a price of up to 35 thousand rubles, a laptop has every chance of becoming a worthy assistant for a very wide range of consumers - from home users to businessmen and businesswomen.
![image](https://habrastorage.org/getpro/geektimes/post_images/a4f/5da/de9/a4f5dade9f4c5357caab381bc9b20d2d.jpg)
For those who thought the diagonal of the laptop was small, there is an “enlarged” version - ASUS N73Jn, in which the screen has grown to 17.3 ''. By the way, it’s also an interesting laptop, but so far I have only seen it briefly at one of the recent exhibitions.
Good luck!

The end
If until recently I had the UL50Vt model as one of my favorite laptops (one that is easy to get on the market) from ASUS, now everything seems to be changing. More recently, I (and apparently, not only me) literally fell in love with the bamboo model U53Jc . But suddenly, roughly on a par with him, was the hero of today's review - a stylish and powerful laptop. At a price of up to 35 thousand rubles, a laptop has every chance of becoming a worthy assistant for a very wide range of consumers - from home users to businessmen and businesswomen.

For those who thought the diagonal of the laptop was small, there is an “enlarged” version - ASUS N73Jn, in which the screen has grown to 17.3 ''. By the way, it’s also an interesting laptop, but so far I have only seen it briefly at one of the recent exhibitions.
Good luck!
