You have already seen how 3D printing is used in medicine , architecture and the automotive industry , but this is far from the limit of how this technology can be used. Today I would like to tell you about how our technology is used by the best world designers and share some unique samples of products that are part of the latest collection of .MGX - the design department of Materialize.

About .MGX
.MGX unites such world-class designers like Luc Merks (Lux Merx), Bassheba Grossmann (Bathsheba Grossmann), Patrick Dzhuin (Patrick Jouin) and others , which allows using a unique 3D printing technology to create products that create an almost magical atmosphere around yourself.

.MGX products are truly unusual, both aesthetically and technologically. The shapes and design geometry of most of them cannot be reproduced by other technologies and is exclusive to 3D printing. With each product .MGX creates not just a detail of the interior, but also a magical atmosphere that allows you to travel to another world created by creative designers.


Technology
The name “.MGX” comes from the file extension of the Magics software . This program allows professional designers to prepare their projects directly for 3D printing.
The process of preparing a file for 3D printing consists of the following steps. First of all, when the designer finished work on a 3D file, the design is exported to * .STL format, after which this file can be prepared for 3D printing using Magics. When all the preparatory work is completed, the file is saved in the Magics extension and sent to the 3D printer.
There are several types of 3D printing that can be used depending on the specific design and the desired result. .MGX products typically use stereolithography or selective laser sintering. In the first case, the 3D printer is filled with liquid polymer, after which the laser layer by layer, coming into contact with the liquid polymer, forms the necessary design. After the end of work, the unused polymer simply merges. In the second case, the liquid polymer is replaced by a powder. The described technologies make it possible to create products whose construction would be impossible using traditional methods. On April 9, .MGX launched an updated website where you can see all the products that were included in the 2010 collection and get acquainted with the designers who developed them.


During the existence of the MGX department, its designers have been awarded prestigious world awards . MGX products are regularly displayed at popular museums and magazines.

The .MGX collection is an exceptionally striking example of how 3D printing can be used not only in industrial products but also as art, creating an atmosphere and inspiring the imagination.
