Review of a strange device: Denon ASD-3W - wifi dock for iPod / iPhone

I really love all kinds of accessories, and if we are talking about those for the iPod / iPhone - it’s very difficult to resist here. In Samara, the assortment is not very wide, and the demand is quite low, so there is a chance to wait for the sale. Denon's Wi-Fi iPod docking station has been selling out at a large electronics store for a long time. So I bought it.

• Charging your iPod / iPhone (most importantly!)
• Listening to Internet radio via wi-fi (there are a lot of Russian radio stations)
• Play music and video from iPod / iPhone (shows Russian letters and disc covers)
• Able to be friends with a computer with Windows Media Player via DLNA (can not be friends with a poppy)

And what not to buy for just 2 thousand rubles ?! Hi-Fi, Wi-Fi, everything! In general, this is a rather old model and it is no longer produced. But I had no previous experience with such devices, so I offer a mini-review. The device comes in a pretty nice box, which in many languages ​​boasts many of its features. Included: the dock itself, three nozzles for different iPods, power supply, wire (tulips, s-video, minijack), antenna, remote control, instructions. Unpacked. Inside the dock there is a pocket for the remote control - very convenient, given that this is the seventh remote control in the room. The iPhone had a great fit in place of the iPod Classic. True, he swore that the device was not designed to work with him and suggested switching to Flight Mode. I refused.















Back side. From left to right: power connector, ethernet, mini-jack connector with the inscription control, stereo output, s-video output. I wonder what kind of control is this? I assume that the dock can be connected to the denon receiver and they can somehow transmit commands to each other. But I can’t check, since I do not have a denon receiver. Doc displays all the information on the TV. It was pretty easy for me to connect it to my home wireless network. Then I downloaded and updated the device firmware. The interface is very ascetic and not very convenient. For some reason, it shows only in 4: 3 format how to switch to widescreen mode - I did not understand. (not sure if this is possible at all)





Here, for example, is listening to the Echo of Moscow radio station. Admins of the radio station were too lazy to score tags, and the dock interface does not sparkle with informativeness. But it works.

So, we will round off. The device is rather strange and not a fact that I really need and useful. But let it be. Again - inexpensive!

Pros:
# High quality sound when listening to music from iPod / iPhone
# Good sound from Internet radio. It surprised me the most.
# Works with wi-fi. I am always very happy if you can refuse the wires.
# Nice design.

Cons:
# Not very user-friendly interface and not very clear remote
# iPhone sometimes makes "tips". It is clear that the problem is not in the device, but still not very nice.
# Incompatibility with poppies. This is very strange and wrong.
# I don’t have a denon receiver and I can’t get the full functionality of the device.
