Rusnano will make RFID for Russia

As you know, Russian passports of a new type are equipped with radio frequency tags (RFID microcircuits), like cards in the Moscow metro. The widespread introduction of RFID chips in retail and transport logistics begins. Everyone needs such chips. Today it was reported that nanotechnology specialists from Rusnano are expanding production as part of this highly profitable project that has already been launched at the Mikron plant. The equipment will again be borrowed from the European chip manufacturer STMicroelectronics.

The production of microcircuits with the 90 nm manufacturing process on foreign equipment is what Russia considers nanotechnology.

The state corporation Rusnano and the IT company Systematika are creating an enterprise for the development of radio frequency identification tags (RFID tags). Investments in the project will amount to 690 million rubles, the company's revenue by 2015 should reach 800 million rubles. Rusnano is already developing a similar project with Sitronics, but there will be no competition between industries, ”Kommersant writes.

The new production will be located in St. Petersburg on the premises of Systematics. According to the business plan, in 2015 its capacity for PatchTag tags will be more than 1.3 million pieces per year, and for iNano sticker tags - about 160 million pieces. RUSNANO and Systematics plan to launch the production of a new generation of RFID chips of EPC Class 1 Gen 2 standard based on 90 nm technology.

This is the second Rusnano project to develop 90 nm technology. The same microchips are already made by the Micron plant of Sitronics, for which Rusnano also purchased the technology from STMicroelectronics.
