That which Ukrainian suspected with suspicion. the mobile communications market - an asset consolidation has begun ...
Telenor Group and Altimo announced an agreement on the merger of joint assets - blocks of shares in VimpelCom OJSC (Beeline TM) and Kyivstar GSM CJSC with the creation of a new mobile operator.
The parties reached an agreement to merge their shareholdings in Vimpel-Communications OJSC and Kyivstar GSM CJSC with the creation of a new joint mobile operator - VimpelCom Ltd. (VimpelCom Ltd.), which provides integrated mobile services in Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries, as well as Georgia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. The company will develop its activities in other emerging markets of Europe, Asia and Africa.
VimpelCom Ltd. registered in Bermuda, headquartered in the Netherlands, and she herself will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The parties agreed to suspend all pending cases of disputes between them and to take measures to withdraw claims or resolve disputes before the transaction.
Subject to the necessary permissions from regulatory authorities and other persons, VimpelCom Ltd. intends to make an offer on the exchange of shares of VimpelCom OJSC and ADRs issued on them for depositary receipts issued on its shares. The parties expect to complete this procedure and other related transactions by mid-2010.
What does this mean for mere mortals?
The fact that the fate of 2 brands Kyivstar GSM and Beeline (Ukraine) is now in question, because now both brands belong to 1 company (not to mention the employees of these companies)
    What are the prospects?
    1. Rebranding of both companies into one (it is unlikely because a lot of effort and money has been invested in the Kyivstar brand)
    2. Merging Beeline subscribers with Kyivstar subscribers (also unlikely since Beeline subscribers are a completely different category of consumers)
3 The development of both brands (unlikely because it is costly + the cost of maintaining both offices)
    4. Restructuring, as a result of which Kyivstar receives the broadband Internet access sector and landline telephony (GoldenTelecom) for itself, and mobile communications under Beeline TM sells comulibo (astelite or Utela) - the most interesting option, and it’s quite real (Utelu will not interfere mobile telephony of the GSM standard, and Astelit is on their own mind;)), in particular, analysts also advocate this option, for example, Sergey Gipsh.
What will come of this? HZ, but the opinion of habr-readers is very interesting.
