Semiconductor industry news in Russia

Two years ago, Sitronics struck the world industry with an unexpected statement: we will make chips in Russia at 65-45 nm standards and with a substrate size of 300 mm (then only the world's leading manufacturers possessed this technology: Intel, TSMC, Samsung, IBM). At that time, Sitronics were the lucky owners of the 180 nm line (which was purchased from STMicroelectroics unclear whether it worked or not), so it was clear that they could not develop the technology from the existing one. According to plans, by 2009 they should have reached 90 nm standards - but no more.

I immediately became interested, who is it and for how much is it ready to sell its line? Under an ambitious project, the company received money from the state - almost a billion dollars.
By the way, modern FAB even then cost several billion, and this is in countries where there is infrastructure.
So suspicions began to creep in that there was just a neat cut of the swollen oil budget.

I already forgot about this story, although an acquaintance found out about their work and corresponded with the Turkish manager (sic!): They pay little, which is not clear specifically, but the latter may be due to secrecy.
Yesterday, news unexpectedly appeared: Sitronics SUDDENLY announced that it was going to acquire a line operating at 90 nm standards. That is three to five years ago. The development of their own technology, apparently, did not go - they did not formally present even a 130 nm device.

Would you give money to people who for 2 years not only failed to complete an ambitious project, for which they received considerable money, but were also unable to fulfill their own development plan?

But Anatoly Chubais is not like that, he believes in people and will give Sitronics 200 million (crisis!) Dollars to create a joint venture with RusNano ...

This time, however, it can work out. The Chinese are massively going out of business: competition is squeezing those who have outdated equipment. Therefore, the pose-the day before yesterday’s technology can probably be bought inexpensively from them. Well, lil just can wait a couple of years and buy a 130 nm line quite cheaply (not without state support, of course) ...

UPD: Of course, they will be given 200 million. That, however, is also a lot for the pay for the work, which already, in fact, had to be carried out ...
