Making mistakes
On the coals was a frying pan. The boy asked the teacher:
“May I take her?”
“You can, but it's hot.” - answered the teacher.
The boy grabbed the pan, but at the same moment he threw it aside and ran screaming to the river to put his burnt hand in the water.
Returning back, he asked:
“Teacher, why didn’t you say that a hot frying pan can burn painfully?”
“Because it’s better to burn yourself once for something hot and remember it for life, than hear a hundred times that it hurts and forget about it as many times,” the teacher answered.
Under the habrakat, I will tell you that you also need to be able to make mistakes.
The parable that I quoted above was my life companion both in the family where I was raised and in the university where I was taught. In general, I was lucky.
And I believe that one of the most important skills of a person is the ability to make mistakes. But, despite the fact that we all make mistakes, not all of us know how to make them (pun, huh?).
The most important thing to understand is that there is nothing wrong with the error (unless, of course, you are an operator at a nuclear power plant).
Consider the simplest example. Vasya and Petya go to buy a player for the first time in their life. Both do not check the player when buying, but take it “without looking”. Well, as usual in such cases, the players of both are found to be defective.
After that Vasya will never go to the player himself, but will call a wiser friend. Petya will take this experience into account and the next time before giving the money, he will check a hundred times how this player works.
Of course, there is a possibility that Vasya was persuaded to go to the store again and explained that the player should be checked. They will again go to the store for the player and begin to check it. This time, none of them checked the radio function, namely, this batch of players had a defective one (a simple Chinese assembler forgot to solder the right chip).
Now Vasya will definitely never go to the store, so as not to make this mistake, but Petya will take this experience into account and the next time he will check the player thoroughly (and not only the player, now he will check everything when buying).
Despite the fact that the example is quite exaggerated, such people are found everywhere. And from such people very poor workers turn out. Because these workers are not initiative. And where does the initiative come from a person who does not know how to make mistakes?
There can be many reasons for this behavior, but one should be emphasized.
Looking at the comrades whom I know personally, we can conclude that the reason is as follows: they were not allowed to make mistakes in childhood. And if they did, then they scolded for mistakes.
And if they didn’t scold, then they spread rot in every way. In general, for life they made it clear that making mistakes is very bad! As a result, these people are now afraid to make a mistake because they have an attitude from their childhood.
Of course, in positions where the initiative is completely unnecessary, these people become indispensable cadres, but when they turn out to be leaders or occupy a position requiring decision-making (and preferably quickly), then it comes ...
Here comes the full hell! Because executives who cannot make a decision are a brake on the whole business. They sometimes take months to make decisions on contentious issues! They do very well with the management of the company (department, etc.) on regulated issues, but everything else ... And yet they believe that others should not make mistakes either. In my memory, it came to the point that people were fired for the slightest mistake, recognizing as unfit for work !!!
But even worse is the ordinary employees of companies. So he was mistaken in something and is now waiting for punishment from his superiors. He will never offer anything new, because this may turn out to be a wrong decision. He terrorizes himself with thoughts that every next step could be his last in this office. And so on until a nervous breakdown.
By and large, if there is a boss-subordinate chain with at least one link with an “erroneous” complex, then you can put an end to the successful work of the entire chain.
Morality: look at yourself from the outside and try to choose a job according to your attitude to mistakes. But it’s even better if you understand that there is nothing wrong with errors. They just need to be considered. Do not reproach yourself for every puncture, but say that next time you will succeed!
PS Run away from leaders who do not know how to make mistakes. This is a loop. Believe me!
