Impressions of Yandex.Subbotnik
To begin with, the impressions are the best, and I am insanely grateful to the organizers of an event useful to me. I have so many impressions that I wrote down 12 sheets of a notebook in small print with my notes. Below I will analyze these notes, organize them and they will be suitable for reading. I will not post the verbatim records of the reports themselves, they will be posted on the net in 2-3 days, and there you will read. Only my impressions :)
I came at point blank range to the report “Layout in IntelliJIDEA” by Vadim Makishvili. As he correctly noted himself, he did not push the editor to us, but simply shared his development experience, and how to make this development more convenient, faster and better. "Subbotnik" on Yandex.Fotki
And there’s nothing special to tell, you just need to download the Idea, watch and maybe change it. She is multi-platform. I’ll add this post, and I’ll definitely download it. It seems to me that listening to the experience of Vadim is worth it.
The only thing is that this program is not intended for HTML + CSS development at all, but for JAVA. Nevertheless, she does a wonderful job with her duties.
Further, Fyodor Golubev briefly and very ascetically spoke about the Yandex.Maps API. In principle, everything that was told during the report, everything is in the documentation. Cognitively, but even here I will not linger. “Subbotnik” on Yandex.Fotki But for myself I came to the conclusion that at a new job (yes, yes - I found a job), in some places I implement functionality based on Y. Karta.
And here the most interesting went, “CSS Framework with your own hands” from Vitaly Kharisov.
Vitaly's speech began with the fact that he went to make-up of the presentation, which was twisted on the wall. As a result, the entire hall was given a brief master class on the operational debug layout, everything was broadcast on the screen and commented on by the developers. After fixing all the problems, Vitaly tore off the applause. By the way, not the last time.
By the way, I noted that Vitaly in profile is similar to Chandler, from the series Friends, when he wore glasses. All the while Vitaly was in my field of vision, this impression did not leave me. View on Yandex.Photos
From Vitaly’s speech, I took out some interesting ideas. I will not blindly repeat what we were told, but to make corrections to what I have now is simply necessary, I really understood it today. It is worth noting that I had such thoughts before Y. Subbotnik, but it was on it that I understood what needs to be done. It concerns optimization of CSS development, and of course layouts are natural.
Vitaly caught the applause for the second time, when he simply and with a smile acknowledged why he was using the tables. The answer is quite obvious, the layers do not give the dynamics that Yandex needs.
I also liked the quote, unfortunately I do not remember verbatim - “The bad are expressive, but written by good people - it's still bad.” If someone remembers the quote itself - please write in the comments.
A lot of abuse went to the developers of IE, well, to the "nedobrauzer." It is obvious that the Microsoft representative did not come, otherwise he would have blushed like a cancer throughout Vitaly’s speech.
A curious PNG fix method was proposed, naturally for IE6, called g-png. I propose to get acquainted with him without fail. I repeat, in 2-3 days all reports will be posted.
During the report, I learned that developers regularly send bug fixes to browser development teams. I asked a question, after the report, they say there is some sense in bug reports? The answer blew Yandex’s entire kitchen with laughter, saying that bug reports were sent solely for personal satisfaction. Although I, on the site of the browser development teams, would listen to the specialists of the Web monsters.
Precisely because reports are sent, valid code is written, which is quite obvious. However, the very reason for validation is clearly not in that :)
Then, after the report, I accidentally heard that Vitaly was worried that his report was boring and uninteresting. Vitaly, if you will read these lines - then know, everything was just fine. However, I already told you that.
Then came a report from Vadim Makeev “With a knife against a steam locomotive. Optimization and cutting graphics for professional typesetting. " For me, the report was interesting only from the point of view - “to listen, maybe I'll find out what's new.” I didn’t learn a lot, but I found out a couple of nice buns for myself. I will use it in my work. "Subbotnik" on Yandex.Fotki
As Vadim correctly noted, before the sites were typesetting, now they draw - in general, this is normal for the evolution of the Web, but it’s still a little difficult for it.
What was not very liked in the report, all the hotkeys that were indicated were indicated for Mac, which is a little uncomfortable for me. But it is not fatal.
A Runner representative set up PhotoShop in parallel with Vadim. By the way, I’ll write a little lower who I saw, albeit not by name. But by company.
I really did not like the guy who, in fact, with his stupid question, made Vadim explain what CSS sprites are. It is unpleasant that the time was taken, because the schedule is very busy, and everything was scheduled in minutes. Someone could not ask, perhaps, an interesting question. And it was said that you can implement rounding corners using sprites. An elementary thing.
Next was the turn of Natalia Makishvili with the report “Layout for Mobile Devices”. Of the interesting things, Natasha has already 30 mobile phones for checking layouts. We, ordinary typesetters, have settled down quite well, and competent layout for mobile phones is incredibly complicated. Under PDA is much easier. View on Yandex.Photos Although Nokia browsers are insanely upset, because they do not support access keys, and attention, anchors! Although this and that worked fine even on the Siemens M55. This is strange for me. It’s unfortunate that statistics are not kept for browsers that support DTD2.0 from the WAPPHORUM organization. I forgot to say that in St. Petersburg, layout designers of page versions for mobile devices have more than 50 phone models.
Then came a report by Evgenia Firsova entitled “The process of deploying layouts is simple, fast, safe,” I, however, missed the first 10 minutes of the report, because at that moment I was talking with Natasha Makishvili in the smoking room. But I understood the meaning, and what I did not understand, I will read later, when the report is posted. And I recommend you, this is an invaluable experience that few of us will receive in our companies. At least in the near future, I definitely won’t get such an experience. Most likely, fortunately.
From the impressions, the rumor hurt unpleasantly that during the report I got the impression that Eugene does not quite understand that Windows also has simlink analogs. Well that's not the point.
There were few questions to Eugene, because the topic was complicated, everyone was tired, time was short and generally, we would still listen to her for two hours with pleasure. But a small number of questions were compensated by deafening applause. All the speakers broke them, by the way, do not think anything like that. Extremely grateful listeners gathered.
Enough about the program, a little about the little things, without which the impressions would not be so rosy.
Of the meal was exclusively baked goods, but the most diverse. I was really hooked on homemade pizza, personally I thank everyone who cooked it - it’s insanely tasty, I destroyed an insane amount of it.
Timur, the head of the testers department (how does this sound right?) Even threatened a couple of times that he would not let anyone out until all the baked goods were eaten, but by the end of it there were just tons, on several tables.
But the sugar got some unsweetened, although putting it in my cup, I was not shy in the number of cubes.
In a smoking room, i.e. it was insanely cold on the open summer terrace, but sweet tea and pastries quickly warmed everyone who went out to breathe fresh air. In the evening, Yandex employees began to go out with us, because the door switched to “dark” mode, and without an employee’s magnetic card it’s impossible to get into the building.
Since there is wi-fi in Yandex’s kitchen, photos from the event and tweets appeared extremely quickly. Only now I did not see the sockets.
On Saturday, representatives of the Runner, Google, Opera, SUP, several banks, Acronis (Lesha, fireworks!) Were spotted.
I want to thank Yandex, and its employees, for the organization, interesting reports, and the desire to do something interesting and useful. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
They will continue, threatening that in 2009 they will hold three more events according to the same scheme, but with a different theme.
Surely forgot a lot, but shared his main impressions. About a hundred participants who were registered did not attend the event - you have lost a lot, gentlemen and ladies, a lot!
